Tour Overview

Within 30 kilometers of Pamukkale's white terraces lie three sites most visitors never reach. A biblical city from the Book of Revelation, an underground cave of glowing calcium formations, and a forested waterfall below Mount Honaz connect into one guided day from your Pamukkale hotel, blending archaeology and nature in a single compact route.

Tour Itinerary

Laodicea, Kaklik Cave & Honaz Tour

Morning hotel pickup, short drive to Laodicea, cave and countryside stops with lunch, and return to Pamukkale in the afternoon.

  1. 09:30 - Pick up from your Pamukkale hotel.

You are collected from your Pamukkale hotel and begin a short countryside transfer with the tour team. This route works well as a second-day excursion because it starts easily from the same hotel base. It gives you more of the region without repeating the main Pamukkale site.

Pickup time may vary slightly based on your hotel location.

  2. Morning - Drive to Laodicea and begin the guided route.

The first drive to Laodicea takes around 15 minutes, so the historical part of the day starts quickly. Once there, you meet the guide and begin the mixed archaeology-and-nature route. Lunch is included during the day.

Briefing

  • Laodicea Ancient City: Laodicea was one of the wealthiest cities in Roman Asia Minor, a major banking center on the crossroads of trade routes connecting Ephesus to Syria, and one of the Seven Churches addressed in the New Testament Book of Revelation. Active excavations continue to expose its colonnaded streets, a 15,000-seat stadium, twin agoras, a nymphaeum, and early Christian church structures, making it one of the most actively developing archaeological sites in western Turkey. Its proximity to Hierapolis means many travelers stay in Pamukkale for days without ever realizing how much more ancient city lies just a short drive away.

  • Kaklik Cave: Kaklik Cave formed through the same geological process as Pamukkale's white terraces, calcium-saturated thermal water depositing travertine over thousands of years, but the result here is entirely underground: stalactite-like formations, shallow mineral pools, and cave walls streaked with white and yellow calcium deposits in an enclosed, atmospheric space. The temperature inside stays cool regardless of the season, the cave air carries a faint mineral scent, and the way the white formations catch the light creates a distinctly otherworldly feeling. Travelers who have already spent a morning on the main Pamukkale terraces are often surprised by how different, and in some ways more dramatic, the underground version feels.

  • Lunch Break: Lunch is served at a countryside stop between the cave and the waterfall section. This break helps the route breathe and keeps the mixed-format day comfortable rather than rushed. Drinks are ordered separately during the meal service.

  • Honaz Waterfall: Honaz Waterfall descends from the slopes of Honaz Dagi (Mount Cadmus), an ancient peak that rises to 2,571 meters above the Denizli plain and was sacred to several successive Anatolian cultures. The waterfall site sits within a forested canyon where the air is noticeably cooler and the sound of falling water replaces the background noise of archaeological sites and tourist paths. As a final stop it works precisely because it asks nothing of the visitor except to stand in a green, shaded place and let the day decompress before the return drive to Pamukkale.

  1. 16:30 - Transfer back to your hotel in Pamukkale.

After the final stop, you return to Pamukkale by road. The route is designed as one connected day from your hotel base, so there is no separate planning needed between the countryside stops. Tour services end with hotel drop-off.

Tour Overview

Three Hidden Layers of the Pamukkale Region

  • Laodicea is the biblical city that the apostle Paul addressed in his letters and that features in the Seven Churches of Revelation, an actively excavated site with colonnaded streets, a stadium, and twin agoras.
  • Kaklik Cave is the underground answer to Pamukkale, calcium-rich thermal water built the same white formations here, but inside a cave system where the atmosphere is entirely different.
  • Honaz Waterfall offers a natural contrast that no ancient site or mineral cave can match, cold moving water, shade, and greenery to close the day.
  • The route starts 15 minutes from your hotel, so the entire day stays close to your Pamukkale base without long road transfers.
  • Lunch, entry fees, and guide are all included, making this a complete off-the-beaten-path day trip with nothing to arrange on arrival.

If you want the full picture of what the Pamukkale region holds beyond its main site, this tour is the most efficient way to find it. Pair it with the core Pamukkale and Hierapolis route or an Aphrodisias day trip for a deeper regional stay.

everything ran smoothly from start to finish. worth every penny. Kaklik cave is like a mini underground Pamukkale. I want to specifically thank Tuna who made this experience truly memorable. Honaz waterfall was refreshing and beautifull. three completely different sites in one day. After reading reviews online we decided to go for it and zero regrets. Thank you for an incredible experience.
