Pickup time may vary by hotel location.

A regional lunch in Bergama helps break the drive and gives the afternoon route a smoother start before the hilltop ruins.

    Lunch is included.

  3. 14:00 - Begin the guided Pergamon program.

From the lower plain, you move into one of western Anatolia's most important ancient centers, where Hellenistic power, healing culture, and steep theater views meet in one visit.

Pergamon Tour RouteExpand briefing

Acropolis -> Altar of Zeus -> Library -> Asclepion -> Theater -> Great Altar zone

Briefing

  • Acropolis of Pergamon: The Acropolis of Pergamon rises sharply above the Caicus plain, giving you an immediate sense of how deliberately the city was placed to dominate the surrounding region. Up here you will find the remains of a royal palace, a grand temple, and one of the steepest ancient theaters in the world. The views from the top stretch far across the valley and make the climb well worth the effort.

  • Altar of Zeus: The Altar of Zeus was once one of the most celebrated monuments in the ancient Greek world, described in ancient texts as a structure of extraordinary scale and decoration. What remains today is the platform and lower sections, enough to convey the ceremonial ambition behind its construction. Its friezes depicted the battle between gods and giants, a mythological program that the Pergamon kings used to legitimize their own power.

  • Library of Pergamon: The Library of Pergamon was said to hold around 200,000 volumes at its peak, making it one of antiquity's great centers of learning and a direct rival to Alexandria. The main reading room still stands, and you can see the stone shelves where scrolls were stored along with air gaps in the wall designed to prevent moisture damage. It was here that parchment, named after Pergamon itself, is believed to have been developed as an alternative to Egyptian papyrus.

  • Asclepion: The Asclepion was an ancient healing sanctuary dedicated to Asclepios, the god of medicine, drawing patients from across the Mediterranean seeking cures through ritual, spring water, and herbal treatments. You walk along a colonnaded sacred way to reach the main complex, which includes a round treatment building, a theater, and underground tunnel passages used in therapeutic rituals. Galen, one of the most influential physicians of antiquity, trained and practiced here in the second century AD.

  • Theater of Pergamon: The Theater of Pergamon is one of the steepest ancient theaters in the world, carved directly into the hillside at an angle of around 80 degrees. It originally seated about 10,000 spectators and featured a long colonnaded terrace in front that functioned as a promenade and viewing platform over the plain below. The combination of the seating gradient and the open views makes this one of the most memorable structures on the site.

  • Great Altar area: The Great Altar area marks the spot where one of antiquity's most famous monumental structures once stood, surrounded by a large sanctuary zone with temples and civic buildings. The original altar was later dismantled and transported to Berlin, where it is now displayed in its own museum, but the foundation platform and surrounding ruins still give the location its commanding presence. Visiting this area completes your understanding of how religion, royal power, and urban planning worked together in Pergamon.

  1. 21:30 - Overnight stay in Canakkale.

After the Pergamon visit, you continue north and arrive in Canakkale for hotel check-in. The evening stays free so you can rest before Troy and Gallipoli on the second day.

    1 night accommodation is included.

Troy Tour, Pergamon & Drive to Istanbul

Breakfast in Canakkale, Troy visit, lunch in Eceabat, full Gallipoli route, and evening drop-off at your Istanbul hotel.

  1. 08:00 - Breakfast and hotel check-out.

You start the second day in Canakkale, then move quickly into the Troy section before the route shifts toward Gallipoli.

Breakfast is included at the hotel.

  2. 08:45 - Visit Troy and continue to Eceabat.

The morning focuses on archaeological Troy first, then the route crosses toward Eceabat for lunch before the memorial landscape of the afternoon.

  3. 13:15 - Begin the Gallipoli tour.

After lunch, the day changes in tone as your guide leads the group through ANZAC and Turkish memorial ground across the peninsula.

Troy Archaeological Tour RouteExpand briefing

Troy Ancient City → Trojan Horse (Movie Replica) → Sacrificial Altars → 3700-Year-Old City Walls → Houses of Troy I (3000-2500 B.C.) → The Agora of Troy

Briefing

  • Troy Ancient City: Founded around 3000 BC, Troy stood on the same hill for four millennia as successive cultures built over the ruins of their predecessors.

  • Trojan Horse (Movie Replica): Constructed from timber and standing several metres tall, the replica Trojan Horse is the most photographed object at the Troy archaeological site.

  • Sacrificial Altars: Religious ritual played a central role in Bronze Age Troy, and the stone altars you see here mark places where sacrifices were made to city gods.

  • 3700-Year-Old City Walls: Archaeologists classify these fortification walls under Troy VI, a wealthy and powerful city that dominated the Dardanelles trade routes in the Bronze Age.

  • Houses of Troy I (3000-2500 B.C.): Excavated foundations at Troy I show a planned settlement of mud-brick houses arranged around a central courtyard from the early Bronze Age.

  • The Agora of Troy: Every major ancient city in the Greek world organised civic life around an agora, and Troy was no exception during its Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Gallipoli Battlefield Tour RouteExpand briefing

Gallipoli Battlefield Areas → Brighton Beach → Beach Cemetery → ANZAC Cove → Ari Burnu → Lone Pine Cemetery → Johnston's Jolly → Shrapnel Valley → Turkish Memorial → The Nek → Chunuk Bair

Briefing

  • Gallipoli Battlefield Areas: Few places in Europe carry as much weight as Gallipoli, where the 1915 ANZAC campaign claimed over 100,000 lives.

  • Brighton Beach: Australian and New Zealand troops came ashore on this slim beach before scrambling up cliffs toward an unknown enemy position.

  • Beach Cemetery: Small and quietly powerful, Beach Cemetery stands almost at the water's edge where many of its 391 soldiers were first treated.

  • ANZAC Cove: Narrow, pebbly, and hemmed by steep cliffs, ANZAC Cove looks almost too small to hold the history that happened here.

  • Ari Burnu: At Ari Burnu, a Turkish memorial carries Ataturk's famous message of reconciliation to the mothers of Allied soldiers who died here.

  • Lone Pine Cemetery: Australian soldiers captured the Lone Pine trenches in one of Gallipoli's most intense close-quarters battles, and held them under relentless counterattack.

  • Johnston's Jolly: ANZAC and Ottoman troops at Johnston's Jolly were close enough to hear each other's conversations through the thin walls of earth.

  • Shrapnel Valley: Every ration, water canteen, and ammunition box that reached the front lines passed through Shrapnel Valley, usually under enemy fire.

  • Turkish Memorial: Standing at the Turkish Memorial, you read words from Ataturk that turn a battlefield site into a place of genuine cross-cultural respect.

  • The Nek: Despite clear signals that the charge was doomed, four waves of Australian Light Horsemen went over the parapet here on August 7, 1915.

  • Chunuk Bair: From Chunuk Bair's summit, you can see the Dardanelles, the Aegean, and the entire Gallipoli peninsula spread out below you.

  1. 22:00 - Drop-off at your Istanbul hotel.

After Gallipoli, the road continues back to Istanbul. At the end of the transfer, you will be dropped off at centrally located hotels in Sultanahmet, Besiktas, or Beyoglu.

Istanbul hotel accommodation is not included.

Solid two day route but its alot of driving. You cover three major historical sites which is impressive for 2 days. Pergamon was my favourite, the ancient library and theatre are massive. Troy was interesting but smaller than expected. Gallipoli was heavy and meaningful. Hotel in Canakkale was basic but fine for one night. Only 4 stars because of the long drives between sites but honestly theres no way around that geographically.
