Tour Overview

Five destinations in five days, and not one of them filler. A 5-day Turkey highlights tour from Istanbul covers Cappadocia's volcanic landscapes, the white pools of Pamukkale, the Roman ruins of Ephesus, the Homeric walls of Troy, and the Gallipoli battlefields. Domestic flights and well-timed bus connections keep every guided day productive.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Fly to Cappadocia & North Cappadocia Tour

Meal: Lunch

04:00 - Early pick up from your Istanbul hotel and transfer to the airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

07:05 - Flight from Istanbul to Cappadocia. (Flight time may change.)

08:30 - Arrival in Cappadocia and transfer to the tour area. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

  • Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley): Unlike any other stop on the Cappadocia Red Tour, Devrent Valley has no ticket booth, no carved interiors, and no historical buildings. It is simply an open outdoor gallery of eroded volcanic ash formations, each one shaped differently from its neighbor.
  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: Pasabag's three-headed fairy chimney is the site's most photographed formation, and your guide will take you to the established viewpoint where all three caps appear in a single composition. Getting that composition right without a guide requires more trial and error than most visitors expect.
  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: Watching an experienced Avanos potter center and raise a vessel in under two minutes is a humbling demonstration of how much physical skill the craft requires. Most visitors who attempt the wheel quickly develop a new respect for every handmade ceramic piece they have ever owned.
  • Goreme Panoramic View: Goreme Panoramic View receives its peak visitor numbers between ten and noon on summer days, when multiple tour groups arrive simultaneously. Red Tour operators who time the stop for early morning or mid-afternoon give their guests a substantially quieter and more personal experience.
  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Wearing comfortable shoes at Zelve is not optional advice but a practical necessity: the carved stone floors rise and fall unpredictably, the paths between cave rooms include uneven steps, and the passages between valleys narrow in places. The site rewards slow, careful movement rather than a quick walk-through.
  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): In morning mist, Uchisar Castle emerges from the surrounding valley haze in a way that explains why early European travelers described Cappadocia as a landscape from another world. The castle rock's height means it clears the mist before the valley below does, creating an island-above-clouds effect that photographs dramatically.

Around 17:00 - Transfer to your hotel after the tour.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Cappadocia for the southern valley circuit.

  • Red Valley: Red Valley earned its name from the intense warm tones that saturate its rock formations throughout the day, deepening from amber in the morning to near-crimson at dusk. The hiking trail is well-marked and manageable, passing close enough to the tallest fairy chimneys for visitors to appreciate their true scale.
  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Rose Valley's cave churches were largely carved between the 9th and 13th centuries, during a period when Cappadocia's Christian population was at its most culturally active. Many frescoes inside Gulludere Valley churches show Byzantine artistic conventions, with flat, stylized figures rendered in natural red, yellow, and black pigments.
  • Cavusin Village: Cavusin's cliff face texture changes noticeably as you climb through the abandoned settlement, with lower sections worn smooth by centuries of contact and upper rooms more angular and raw. Occupation patterns written directly into the rock surface like this make Cavusin one of the most compelling but least-discussed stops in Cappadocia.
  • Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's canyon walls are steeper and more vertical than those of neighboring Rose Valley, giving it a more austere and dramatic character that appeals to visitors who prefer raw geology over cultivated scenery. The contrast between the two adjacent valleys, each approached by similar trails, illustrates how varied Cappadocia's landscape is within a very compact area.
  • Underground City: Archaeological survey work at Cappadocia's underground cities continues to reveal new rooms and passages, with some estimates suggesting that the full extent of excavated and unexcavated tunnels runs to several kilometers in total length. What visitors see on a guided tour represents only the most accessible and stable portion of a much larger carved network still being mapped by researchers.

Around 17:00 - Transfer to the bus station after the tour.

20:15 - Board the overnight intercity bus from Cappadocia to Pamukkale. (Departure time may change depending on availability and travel date. The bus journey takes approximately 10 hours.)

Overnight intercity bus to Pamukkale

Day 3 ─

Pamukkale and Hierapolis & Transfer to Kusadasi/Selcuk

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

Morning arrival in Pamukkale and transfer for breakfast and tour preparation.

  • Pamukkale: Few travelers leave Pamukkale without stopping to photograph the hillside multiple times. Warm mineral springs flow across wide white ledges, leaving calcium carbonate deposits that slowly build the famous travertine terraces of Denizli province. UNESCO recognized this extraordinary natural and historical combination in 1988, and both the geology and the ancient city above have been drawing visitors ever since.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Pamukkale's calcium terraces look different from every angle. From below, they appear as a bright white cliff face. From above, they open into a series of wide turquoise pools. Standing inside one of those pools on warm smooth travertine, with the plains of Denizli spread out in front of you, the perspective shifts entirely, and this hillside suddenly feels as extraordinary as its UNESCO status suggests.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Standing in the theater at Hierapolis, you look out over the same white travertine hillside the Romans could see from their seats two thousand years ago. The theater is one of the best-preserved in Turkey, its carved marble seating still largely intact. Below the stage, the ancient city of Hierapolis unfolds in every direction: colonnaded streets, temples, baths, and the largest ancient necropolis in Anatolia.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Cleopatra's connection to this thermal pool at Hierapolis is more legend than documented history, but the pool itself is the real thing: ancient Roman construction, submerged marble columns from a long-ago earthquake, and warm mineral water flowing at 36 degrees. If you want to swim here, plan ahead, entry is an additional cost paid directly at the pool and is not part of the tour package.

Around 16:00 - Transfer to Kusadasi/Selcuk after the Pamukkale tour.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/Selcuk

Day 4 ─

Ephesus Tour & Bus to Canakkale

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk for the Ephesus day.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Among all the monuments in Ephesus, the Great Theatre is the one that captures scale most powerfully, built into the slope of Panayir Hill, it could hold 25,000 spectators for plays, gladiatorial contests, and public assemblies. Looking out from the top rows, you can trace the outline of the ancient harbor road stretching toward what was once the Aegean Sea. That view alone is worth the climb.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Spring water flows from a small fountain at the House of Virgin Mary, believed by many pilgrims to have healing properties. Visitors queue to fill small bottles from the fountain and carry the water home as a keepsake from the pilgrimage site. Whether or not you share the faith, the ritual is a meaningful part of understanding why this place matters to so many people.
  • Temple of Artemis: Coins minted in Ephesus during the Roman era depicted the Temple of Artemis on their face, reflecting how central the structure was to the city's identity and economy. Pilgrims came from across the Mediterranean to worship at the sanctuary, and the temple complex included treasuries, altars, and accommodation for visitors at a scale that rivaled modern religious sites. Near Selcuk today, a single column marks where all of that once stood.

Around 16:00 - The tour ends and transfer to the bus station. Take an intercity bus to Canakkale around 17:30. The bus journey takes about 6 hours.

Midnight - Arrival in Canakkale. We will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

Overnight stay in Canakkale

Day 5 ─

Troy, Gallipoli Battlefields & Return to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - After breakfast, pick up from your hotel in Canakkale and transfer to Troy.

  • Troy Ancient City: Visit the legendary archaeological site where Bronze Age settlement layers, city walls, gates, and ruins connect myth, archaeology, and the story of the Trojan War.
  • Trojan Horse Replica: See the symbolic wooden horse replica at Troy, a popular photo stop that recalls the famous legend of the Greeks entering the city by strategy.

Lunch is served after the Troy visit.

  • Beach Cemetery: The final resting place of many ANZAC soldiers, located just steps from the sea where they landed in 1915.
  • ANZAC Cove: The narrow beach where the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps made their landing under heavy fire.
  • Ari Burnu Cemetery: A peaceful cemetery with scenic sea views, holding many graves from the early days of the campaign.
  • ANZAC Commemorative Site: A symbolic area where annual dawn services are held, honoring all soldiers who fought here.
  • Respect to Mehmetcik Monument: A moving tribute to the Turkish soldiers who bravely defended their homeland during the campaign.
  • Lone Pine Australian Memorial: Commemorating Australian soldiers, this site includes trenches and a monument to fallen heroes.
  • Johnston's Jolly: Walk through preserved Turkish and Allied trenches that bring the brutal conditions of trench warfare to life.
  • Turkish 57th Infantry Regiment Cemetery: Dedicated to the regiment that fought to the last man during the initial landings.
  • The Nek: A narrow ridge where tragic charges took place; a symbolic location featured in history and film.
  • Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial: A high ridge offering dramatic views, where New Zealand forces made a valiant push in August 1915.

Around 17:00 - The guided tour ends.

Around 18:00 - Depart from Eceabat for Istanbul by bus after the Gallipoli route ends.

Around 22:00 - Arrival in Istanbul and transfer to your hotel or central drop-off point.

Your 5 Days Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Troy, Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul ends after the final transfer.

Tour Overview

Why This Grand Circuit Stands Apart

  • Five distinct regions in one booking: Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Gallipoli, and Troy each occupy a full guided slot, so no site feels like an afterthought.
  • Flight-and-bus combination: A domestic flight launches the trip fast into Cappadocia, while overnight buses keep westward momentum going without wasting touring hours.
  • Battlefield depth rare in short packages: Gallipoli and Troy are rarely paired with Cappadocia and Ephesus at this length, this route does it without cutting any site short.
  • Guided throughout: Professional English-speaking guides cover every major stop, so you spend time understanding what you see, not reading signboards.
  • Transfers handled end-to-end: Airport pickups, hotel-to-hotel moves, and the final Istanbul return are all coordinated, leaving nothing to arrange independently.

For a slightly longer journey through the same regions, our 7 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour adds Istanbul and two more days for a more relaxed pace.
If you prefer the same five destinations in a different travel sequence, our 6 Days Gallipoli, Troy, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Cappadocia Tour from Istanbul runs the same circuit with one extra day.

It sounds like too much for 5 days but it was paced really well. Guide Tuna was with us the enitre time and he was amazing. Turkish food every meal was so good. Cave hotel in Cappadocia was the cherry on top.

Did the optional balloon flight in Cappadocia on day 2 morning before the south tour started. Woke up at 4am and it was SO worth it!! Hundreds of balloons floating over fairy chimney valleys at sunrise. Honestly one of the best things iv ever done. The rest of the tour was incredible too. Ephesus Library of Celsus blew me away, the Pamukkale terraces looked unreal, and Gallipoli was really emotional. Our guide Burak was 10/10.
