Tour Overview

This 3-day route is designed for travelers already in Cappadocia who want to reach the deeper heritage of southeastern Turkey without arranging long-distance logistics alone. It combines Mount Nemrut, Karakus Tumulus, Cendere Bridge, Sanliurfa, and Gobeklitepe with hotels, transfers, selected meals, and guided sightseeing.

The program returns to Cappadocia at the end, making it practical as an extension before or after a classic Cappadocia itinerary.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Cappadocia to Adiyaman via Kahramanmaras

09:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Cappadocia and depart toward Adiyaman/Kahta. This is a long overland day of around 7 to 8 hours including comfort stops, mountain scenery, and regional breaks along the way.

  • Karatayhan Seljuk Caravanserai: Karatayhan is a Seljuk caravanserai on the old trade routes of central Anatolia. Even as a short roadside stop, it gives the day a historical frame: before modern highways, merchants and travelers crossed this landscape through protected caravan stations like this.
  • Pinarbasi: Pinarbasi marks the transition from the volcanic world of Cappadocia toward the highland routes of central Anatolia. The scenery begins to open into broader valleys and rural road landscapes.
  • Tekir Valley: Tekir Valley is one of the most scenic mountain passages on the route, where the road climbs and curves through the Taurus-side landscape. It gives the transfer day a strong sense of movement across regions rather than simple highway travel.
  • Kahramanmaras: Kahramanmaras is best known for its dense, elastic ice cream made with salep and goat milk. The stop is not only about dessert; it is a taste of a regional food tradition that has become part of the city identity.

When the day route ends, we will drop you off at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Adiyaman/Kahta.

Day 2 ─

Mount Nemrut, Adiyaman Heritage & Sanliurfa

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:00 - Depart from Adiyaman/Kahta for Mount Nemrut and the Commagene heritage route. The day includes mountain roads and regional driving before continuing toward Sanliurfa; arrival in Sanliurfa is expected in the evening.

  • Mount Nemrut: Mount Nemrut is the ceremonial summit of the Commagene Kingdom, where colossal stone heads of gods, eagles, lions, and King Antiochus I still watch over the mountain terraces. The site feels remote and theatrical because it was designed as both a royal tomb and a sacred meeting point between Persian and Hellenistic traditions.
  • Arsemia Ruins: Arsemia was an important Commagene royal center connected to Mount Nemrut. Its inscriptions, reliefs, and hillside setting help explain the political world behind the giant statues on the summit.
  • Cendere Roman Bridge: Cendere Bridge is one of the most elegant Roman bridges in southeastern Turkey, built with massive stone blocks across a narrow river gorge. It is a rare place where engineering, imperial dedication, and landscape still read clearly together.
  • Karakus Royal Tomb: Karakus Tumulus is a royal burial monument marked by surviving columns and animal sculptures. It gives a quieter but essential view of Commagene funerary culture beyond the famous Nemrut summit.
  • Sanliurfa Old Quarter: Sanliurfa adds a different layer to the day: sacred stories, stone streets, bazaar life, and traditional food culture. The old quarter feels lived-in rather than museum-like.
  • Abraham Cave and Pools of Holy Carp: Abraham Cave and Balikligol are connected with the sacred memory of Prophet Abraham. The pools, courtyards, mosques, and shaded walkways create one of southeastern Turkey's most atmospheric pilgrimage areas.
  • Oriental Bazaar Area: The bazaar area of Sanliurfa is a dense network of covered lanes, workshops, spice stalls, and tea courtyards. It is the best place to feel the city's daily rhythm after the monumental landscapes of Nemrut.

17:00 - The tour ends and we will drop you off at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Sanliurfa.

Day 3 ─

Gobeklitepe Tour & Return to Cappadocia

Meal: Breakfast

09:00 - After breakfast, visit Gobeklitepe and then begin the return drive to Cappadocia. The road back is long, around 7 to 8 hours depending on traffic and breaks, and arrival in Cappadocia is expected in the late afternoon or evening.

  • Gobeklitepe: Gobeklitepe is one of the most important prehistoric sanctuary sites in the world, with T-shaped pillars dating back to around 9600 BC. Its carved animals, circular enclosures, and monumental scale changed how archaeologists think about ritual life before settled farming communities.
  • Taurus Mountain Scenery: The return route passes through broad Anatolian landscapes and Taurus Mountain scenery, turning the drive back into a final visual chapter rather than only a transfer. The changing terrain helps connect southeastern Turkey with the high plateaus around Cappadocia.

The tour ends after drop-off at your Cappadocia hotel.
