Tour Overview

Five days, three destinations, and not a single transfer day wasted on waiting. A 5-day Cappadocia, Ephesus, and Pamukkale tour from Istanbul opens with two full days among cave valleys and fairy chimneys, shifts west to the Roman streets of Ephesus, and wraps up at Pamukkale's white terraces before your return flight.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Fly to Cappadocia and Start the North Route

Meal: Lunch

04:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Istanbul and transfer to the airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

06:35 - Flight to Kayseri or Nevsehir. (Flight time may change.)

07:50 - Arrival in Cappadocia and meet-up with our local team. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer directly to the tour area.

  • Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): Walk through Devrent Valley's open plateau and you will find rock columns shaped by millions of years of volcanic erosion into unmistakable animal silhouettes. Your guide will point out the famous camel formation and challenge you to spot the dolphin and seal shapes hidden among the pillars.
  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: From a geological standpoint, Pasabag demonstrates one of Cappadocia's most important erosion mechanisms in a single visible sequence: you can see fully formed chimneys, partially eroded chimneys, and worn stumps all within the same site. It is an accidental textbook of volcanic rock formation.
  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: Kizilirmak River, visible from Avanos, is Turkey's longest river, originating in the eastern highlands and running west across Anatolia before reaching the Black Sea. Its path through Cappadocia deposited the red clay sediment that turned Avanos into a pottery center, a connection the town has maintained ever since.
  • Goreme Panoramic View: Goreme Panoramic View is one of the few stops on the Red Tour where your guide encourages independent exploration of the viewpoint rather than a guided explanation. The landscape speaks clearly enough for itself, and quiet observation here produces a different quality of experience than guided narration.
  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Byzantine Christians established Zelve as a monastic settlement, and the village's earliest carved spaces were chapels and hermit cells. Over centuries, the settlement evolved into a mixed community of Muslim and Christian residents living in adjacent cave neighborhoods, a coexistence that left evidence in both religious architecture.
  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Looking at Uchisar Castle from the designated viewpoint, you can count dozens of carved openings across the rock face, each one representing a deliberate decision about where to place a room, a storage space, or a pigeon house. That accumulated intentionality across centuries of carving is part of what makes the exterior so visually rich.

17:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Cappadocia at the end of the route.

Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:00 - After breakfast, pick up from your hotel for the South Cappadocia route.

  • Red Valley: Cappadocia's Red Valley represents one of the purest expressions of the region's volcanic geology, unencumbered by facilities or signage that might distract from the landscape itself. For travelers who want to experience Cappadocia's natural scenery without crowds or infrastructure, Red Valley remains one of the most rewarding stops on any itinerary.
  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Unlike Goreme Open Air Museum where rock churches are protected behind fences, most of Rose Valley's cave chapels sit directly along the trail with no barriers between visitor and interior. This open access creates an unusually intimate experience, allowing you to step inside ancient worship spaces and stand exactly where their builders once stood.
  • Cavusin Village: Some of Cavusin's oldest cave rooms contain traces of painted plaster on interior walls, suggesting that even domestic spaces in the upper village were sometimes decorated as well as functional. These fragments are rarely highlighted on tours but reward close examination in accessible rooms along the main path up through the old settlement.
  • Pigeon Valley: A characteristic smell of chalk and mineral dust fills Pigeon Valley's lower canyon, particularly in dry summer months when the rock face is warm and the air still. Combined with the sound of pigeon wings and the visual texture of hundreds of carved openings above, the sensory experience of Pigeon Valley is distinctive in a way that photographs cannot convey.
  • Underground City: Descending into one of Cappadocia's underground cities means entering a world designed for concealment, with deliberately low doorways that forced any attacker to enter crouching, vulnerable to the defenders waiting inside. Stone circular doors, still intact and some still capable of rolling, could seal entire tunnel sections from the inside in a matter of seconds.

17:00 - The tour ends, followed by return transfer to your hotel in Cappadocia.

Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Rest of the day at leisure in Kusadasi/Selcuk.

Day 4 ─

Ephesus Day from Kusadasi

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:00 - After breakfast, transfer to Selcuk to begin your guided Ephesus route.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Few ancient cities anywhere preserve their street network as completely as Ephesus, you can trace entire blocks, identify residential quarters, and follow the logic of urban planning laid down two thousand years ago. The marble-paved main road even preserves ruts left by cart wheels in the ancient city's busiest centuries. Details like that make history concrete in a way no textbook can replicate.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Halfway up Bulbul Mountain near Ephesus, a small stone chapel marks the place where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her final years after leaving Jerusalem. Recognized by the Vatican as an official pilgrimage site, it draws visitors of every faith who come for its peaceful atmosphere as much as its sacred history. Few places in Turkey carry the same quiet spiritual weight.
  • Temple of Artemis: When Alexander the Great passed through Ephesus in 334 BC, the Temple of Artemis was already under reconstruction after Herostratus's arson attack. Alexander reportedly offered to fund the rebuilding in exchange for a dedicatory inscription in his name, an offer the Ephesians politely declined, saying it was not proper for one god to dedicate a temple to another. That story, told at the modest site near Selcuk, makes the visit feel genuinely alive.

16:00 - The Ephesus route ends and you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi.

Day 5 ─

Pamukkale Tour and Flight to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk and transfer to Pamukkale by scenic route. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours.

  • Pamukkale: Every year, millions of travelers make their way to Denizli province specifically to see Pamukkale's white hillside. Thermal springs rich in calcium carbonate have been slowly building these travertine terraces for thousands of years, creating formations that look almost too perfect to be natural. The UNESCO listing covers both the geological wonder and the ancient city at the summit.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Calcium carbonate concentrations in Pamukkale's thermal water are high enough that you can actually watch thin mineral crusts form on leaves and sticks left in the flow for just a few days. Over thousands of years, that same process built the broad white terraces that now define the hillside. Walking across them barefoot, with warm water at your ankles and ruins above your head, feels like stepping inside a geology textbook.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Hierapolis was founded by the Attalid kings of Pergamon in the 2nd century BC and later absorbed into the Roman Empire without a fight. Under Roman rule it expanded significantly, gaining the theater, baths, and colonnaded streets that define the site today. The Byzantine period added a cathedral and city walls, remnants of which still stand at the southern entrance to the ruins above Pamukkale.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool occupies a corner of the Hierapolis ruins above Pamukkale, its warm water and submerged columns drawing visitors who want more than just a walk through the ancient city. The thermal water flows at 36 degrees and contains the same calcium-rich minerals responsible for the white travertine terraces below. Keep in mind that entry to the pool is not included in your tour cost, it is payable directly on-site.

16:00 - After the tour, transfer to Denizli Airport.

19:30 - Flight from Denizli to Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

20:45 - Arrival in Istanbul and meet-up with our team. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to your hotel or central drop-off point in Istanbul.

Your 5 Days Cappadocia, Ephesus, and Pamukkale Tour from Istanbul ends after the final transfer.

  • You get real time in Cappadocia first instead of squeezing the region into one rushed arrival day.
  • The free afternoon in Kusadasi softens the pace before the final western touring days.
  • Ephesus and Pamukkale each keep their own day, so neither site feels reduced to a quick add-on.

  • It suits first-time visitors who want variety across valleys, archaeology, and thermal landscapes in one short package.

Want to explore the same three regions at a more relaxed pace? Our 6 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, and Pamukkale Tour adds Istanbul to the mix and spreads the sightseeing over six days.
If you prefer the reverse routing starting from Pamukkale, our 5-day Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Ephesus tour covers the same destinations in the opposite order.

Five days, three completely different destinations, all of them incredible. Cappadocia fairy chimneys and underground city on days 1-2, then Ephesus with the Library of Celsus and amphitheatre, then Pamukkale white terraces and Hierapolis ruins. The variety on this tour is what makes it special. Guide Tuna in Cappadocia was hilarious and informative. Cave hotel in Goreme was a dream. The whole thing was so well put together, every transfer and hotel was sorted for us.

Pasabag fairy chimneys are taller than I expected. Like 3-4 story buildings made of natural rock with mushroom shaped tops. And monks actually lived inside them centuries ago, you can see the carved rooms. The whole Red Tour route was fantastic. Then the Green Tour with the underground city and Ihlara Valley canyon. Then Ephesus, then Pamukkale. Five days of constantly saying wow. Guide Mehmet was brilliant at every stop. Cave hotel was the cherry on top.
