Tour Overview
Cappadocia's volcanic valleys, the Roman city of Ephesus, and Pamukkale's mineral-white plateau rarely appear in the same short itinerary. A 4-day Turkey tour from Istanbul connects all three using domestic flights and smart overland transfers, covering fairy chimneys, a 25,000-seat amphitheatre, and the Hierapolis thermal terraces in four focused days.
Tour Itinerary
Fly to Cappadocia & Discover the Northern Valleys
Meal: Lunch
04:00 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)
07:00 - Flight from Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevsehir. (Flight time may change.)
08:15 - Arrival at Kayseri or Nevsehir Airport. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)
Transfer from the airport to the Cappadocia tour area.
Begin your first guided day in Cappadocia with the region's best-known northern stops.
- Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): Devrent Valley's formations were named by locals long before tourism reached Cappadocia, and many of the animal identifications have been passed down through generations of guides. The camel, dolphin, and seal names are now standardized, but older guides sometimes share alternative names that have fallen out of use.
- Pasabag Open Air Museum: Pasabag sits within the Goreme National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its combination of geological spectacle and human history is precisely what UNESCO cited when granting the designation. Few sites in Turkey compress both natural and cultural heritage into such a small area.
- Avanos Pottery Workshop: A genuine Avanos workshop operates at a commercial scale, with multiple potters working simultaneously at different wheels throughout the day. Joining one of those working sessions, even briefly, gives you a sense of what pottery production looks like as a livelihood rather than a hobby.
- Goreme Panoramic View: Goreme Panoramic View's elevation above the valley floor is not extreme, but it is sufficient to shift your visual relationship with the landscape entirely. What felt intimate and enclosed from within the valleys becomes legible and sweeping from above.
- Zelve Open Air Museum: Zelve Open Air Museum is one of Cappadocia's most layered historical sites, a fully inhabited cave village that remained occupied until 1952 before residents were relocated for safety. Walking its carved corridors today means walking through streets where families cooked, prayed, and traded within living memory.
- Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Afternoon light catches Uchisar Castle's western face and illuminates the carved openings with a warmth that flat midday light does not produce. Red Tour guides often time the Uchisar stop for mid-afternoon precisely to take advantage of that lighting window, which improves the photographs considerably.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
09:30 - Pick up from your hotel in Cappadocia and begin the second guided route.
The second Cappadocia day focuses on valleys, village textures, and underground history before the evening flight west.
- Red Valley: Red Valley and Rose Valley share a connected trail system that allows visitors to walk between them without returning to the road at either end. Most guided tours enter from the Red Valley side and exit near Cavusin village, covering both valleys in a single uninterrupted scenic walk.
- Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Rose Valley connects directly to Red Valley by a hiking trail, making it easy to visit both in sequence without retracing any steps. The combined walk between the two valleys ranks among Cappadocia's most scenic half-day routes, suitable for travelers with a moderate level of fitness.
- Cavusin Village: Cavusin's abandoned upper district has an atmospheric quality found nowhere else on the Cappadocia Yellow Tour, with empty doorways, collapsed interior walls, and carved staircases ending in open air. Unlike restored sites nearby, old Cavusin remains in its natural state of gradual ruin, which paradoxically makes it feel more authentically connected to its past.
- Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's role in Cappadocia's agricultural economy declined significantly in the 20th century as chemical fertilizers became widely available and affordable. Active dovecotes in the valley today are maintained more as a cultural tradition and source of pride than as a financially necessary farming practice.
- Underground City: Walking back to the surface after a descent through Cappadocia's underground city, the feeling of open air and space above ground takes on a new value that is difficult to articulate but impossible to ignore. That shift in perspective, from the carved tight darkness below to the wide Cappadocia sky above, is perhaps the underground city's most lasting impression on everyone who visits.
17:00 - Transfer to the airport after the Cappadocia tour.
20:30 - Flight from Cappadocia to Izmir. (Flight time may change. If a direct flight is not available, you will fly via Istanbul.)
21:45 - Arrival at Izmir Airport. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Overnight stay in Kusadasi
Pamukkale Day Trip from Kusadasi
Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
08:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi or Selcuk for the Pamukkale day trip.
Drive toward Pamukkale with a road transfer of about three hours before the guided visit begins.
- Pamukkale: Walk barefoot on warm white stone, look down at turquoise pools, and look up at ancient ruins, that is what Pamukkale offers in a single afternoon. The travertine terraces in Denizli province formed over millennia as calcium carbonate slowly built up from overflowing thermal springs. UNESCO included the entire hillside and the ancient city above in its World Heritage list.
- White Calcium Terraces: Sunrise on the white calcium terraces at Pamukkale is worth the early wake-up call. The travertine glows orange and pink before the day heats up, and the terraces are mostly empty in the first hour after opening. By midday the light turns harsh and flat, morning is simply the best time to see this mineral formation at its most photogenic.
- Hierapolis Ancient City: Hierapolis grew into a major city over several centuries, absorbing Greek, Roman, and later Byzantine influences in its architecture and culture. The colonnaded main street that runs through the site was paved in Roman times and still shows the ruts carved by cart wheels over centuries of use. At the far northern end of the ruins, thousands of ancient tombs mark the edge of the city where the living gave way to the dead.
- Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: An earthquake centuries ago turned Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool into something more interesting than an ordinary Roman bath. When the tremor toppled nearby structures, marble columns and stone fragments tumbled directly into the pool, and they have remained submerged there ever since. Today visitors swim at 36 degrees among this ancient architectural debris, an experience that is entirely optional and paid for on-site, outside the tour price. Swimming is not included in the tour price and is payable on-site.
Free time to explore on your own or visit Cleopatra Antique Pool separately.
16:00 - Transfer back to your hotel in Kusadasi after the Pamukkale program.
Overnight stay in Kusadasi
Full Ephesus Route & Return Flight to Istanbul
Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
08:30 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi for the Ephesus route.
Spend the final day among the best-known archaeological and religious highlights of the Ephesus area.
- Ephesus Ancient City: Roman baths in Ephesus give visitors a rare look at how public hygiene functioned at a civic scale two thousand years ago. The large vaulted chambers would have been heated by underground systems, and different rooms served different temperature preferences. Seeing the engineering behind something as everyday as a bathhouse shifts the way you think about Roman ingenuity throughout the rest of your visit.
- House of Virgin Mary: Located on Bulbul Mountain in the hills above Selcuk, the House of Virgin Mary is accessible by road and represents a very different kind of stop from the archaeological excavations at Ephesus. Where the ancient city overwhelms with scale, this site works through intimacy. A small stone chapel, a handful of candles, a quiet courtyard, it asks for stillness rather than attention.
- Temple of Artemis: The Temple of Artemis was not only a religious monument but an economic engine for ancient Ephesus and its surrounding region. The pilgrimage trade it generated supported craftsmen, merchants, innkeepers, and priests across the entire city. When the temple was finally destroyed for the last time in the fourth century AD, it took a whole layer of Ephesus's identity with it, a loss that historians say accelerated the city's decline.

the hotel accommodations were comfortable. the photos we got are incredible. Hierapolis ruins above the terraces were impressive. This was our first time in Turkey and what an introduction. the fairy chimneys are even more amazing in person. Selim went out of the way to make sure everyone in our group had a great time. Turkish tea by the Bosphorus was perfect. Already reccomending this to everyone I know.

4 days, 3 completely different places, all incredible. Cappadocia was magical with the fairy chimneys and cave hotel. We added the balloon flight which was 10/10. Then flew to Izmir for Ephesus which was so impressive, the Library of Celsus is massive in person. Pamukkale the next day was like a dream, those white terraces with warm water flowing over them. All flights, hotels, transfers and guides included. The whole thing was so well organized I didnt have to think about anything except enjoying it. Guide in Cappadocia was Aylin and she was fantastic.
