Tour Overview

Ninety minutes by air from Istanbul, Cappadocia's valleys are closer than most travelers expect. A 2-day Cappadocia tour from Istanbul covers two complete guided circuits: the North route through fairy chimneys and open-air museums on the first afternoon, then the South route through rose valleys and an underground city the next morning.

Tour Itinerary

Fly to Cappadocia & North Route

Early Istanbul hotel pickup, morning flight, six stops on the North Cappadocia circuit, and overnight in a cave or stone hotel.

  1. 04:00 - Pick up from your Istanbul hotel.

Your driver meets you at your Istanbul hotel lobby and transfers you to Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport for the early morning departure.

Pickup time and airport may change.

  2. 07:20 - Flight from Istanbul to Cappadocia.

Board your domestic flight east. The flight takes approximately 90 minutes and puts you in Cappadocia while the morning is still young.

    Flight time may change.

    • 09:00 - Arrival near Cappadocia.

Your local guide and vehicle are waiting at the arrival terminal for the transfer to the first tour stop.

Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.

  3. 09:30 - Transfer to Devrent Valley, start of the North Cappadocia circuit.

Your guide leads the group from the airport to the first stop on the north route. The guided sightseeing day begins without losing the rest of the morning.

North Cappadocia Tour RouteExpand briefing

Devrent Valley (Pink Valley) → Pasabag Open Air Museum → Avanos Pottery Workshop → Goreme Panoramic View → Zelve Open Air Museum → Uchisar Castle (exterior view)

Briefing

  • Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): Known as Pink Valley, Devrent is Cappadocia's purest natural gallery, a field of eroded pillars with no buildings, only stone and sky.

  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: Pasabag's fairy chimneys are noticeably taller and more dramatic than any others on the Red Tour route, making them a natural focal point.

  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: Avanos workshops sell finished pieces at fair prices, and smaller items like bowls and cups make practical souvenirs that survive the journey home.

  • Goreme Panoramic View: Goreme Panoramic View gives you a bird's-eye perspective on millions of years of volcanic erosion, all compressed into a single valley below.

  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Zelve Open Air Museum near Avanos is one of Cappadocia's most underrated attractions, offering a deeper cultural story than most visitors expect.

  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Uchisar Castle served as a natural watchtower and refuge for Cappadocian communities for centuries, its carved interior offering shelter from invasion.

  1. 17:00 - Transfer to your cave or stone hotel in Cappadocia.

After the final stop, your vehicle takes you to your hotel for check-in and rest ahead of the second day.

South Cappadocia Tour RouteExpand briefing

Red Valley → Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley) → Cavusin Village → Pigeon Valley → Underground City

Briefing

  • Red Valley: Standing inside Red Valley feels like stepping onto another planet, where silence and burnt-orange stone stretch endlessly in every direction.

  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Early Byzantine monks chose Rose Valley's remote cliffs as a place of worship, carving chapels directly into the soft volcanic rock by hand.

  • Cavusin Village: Greek Orthodox families lived in Cavusin's cliff dwellings until a population exchange in the 1920s ended centuries of continuous habitation.

  • Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's canyon rim delivers some of Cappadocia's widest open views, with the Uchisar fortress rock visible in the distance from the main viewpoint.

  • Underground City: Christian communities carved Cappadocia's underground city in a time of real danger, building stone rolling doors to seal tunnels against pursuing soldiers.

  1. 17:00 - Transfer to Cappadocia airport.

When the south route finishes, your vehicle transfers the group to Kayseri or Nevsehir Airport for the evening return flight.

  2. 20:45 - Flight from Cappadocia to Istanbul.

Board the evening domestic flight back to Istanbul. The flight takes approximately 90 minutes.

    Flight time may change.

    • 21:55 - Arrival in Istanbul and hotel transfer.

Tour Overview

Why Two Days Covers Cappadocia Better Than You'd Think

  • Flight speed works in your favour, 90 minutes in the air each way means you lose almost no touring time to travel, unlike an overnight bus that arrives at dawn.
  • Two routes, two moods, the fairy chimneys and monasteries of the North circuit look nothing like the warm-toned valleys and underground chambers of the South circuit.
  • Cave or stone hotel between days, an overnight in Cappadocia's historic centre puts you in position for an optional sunrise balloon on Day 2 before the south tour begins.
  • Full logistics covered, Istanbul hotel pickup, both airport transfers, guided tours, lunches on both days, all entrance fees, and return drop-off are all pre-arranged.
  • Right-sized for most itineraries, two focused days is enough to see the region's defining highlights without stretching a limited Turkey trip to the breaking point.

For a more personal version of the same route, consider the private 2-day Cappadocia tour from Istanbul, a dedicated vehicle and guide, no shared group.
If your schedule allows three days, the 3-day Cappadocia package from Istanbul adds the Green Tour and a second morning for the balloon.

Cave hotel was amazing and the flights were included which made it so easy. Our guide Leyla was fantastic, she knew everything about the history of Goreme and the underground cities. Devrent Valley looked like another planet. Pasabag with the mushroom rocks was my favorite spot for photos. The pottery demo in Avanos was really fun too, I actually made a little bowl lol
