Istanbul Old City & Bosphorus Cruise

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - Pick up from your hotel.

Transfer to Istanbul's old city peninsula.

  • Hagia Sophia: Originally built as a Byzantine cathedral in 537 AD, Hagia Sophia was the world's largest domed building for nearly a millennium. Today an active mosque, it rewards visitors with its golden mosaics, marble galleries, and the extraordinary spatial experience of standing under a dome that changed the history of architecture.
  • Blue Mosque: Istanbul's Sultan Ahmed Mosque is the only imperial Ottoman mosque in the city with six minarets, and its interior of blue-glazed Iznik tiles visible through 260 windows has made it one of the most recognized religious buildings in the world. The peaceful outer courtyard and the scale of the dome complex are equally impressive from outside.
  • Hippodrome: The ancient Hippodrome was Constantinople's political and sporting centre, capable of holding 100,000 people for chariot races. Three ancient monuments brought from different corners of the ancient world still stand on its central axis, the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column, and the Column of Constantine, each with a different story of how it arrived in Istanbul.
  • Golden Horn: The Golden Horn estuary separates Istanbul's historic peninsula from the Beyoglu district and is best appreciated from the Galata Bridge, where fishermen line the railings above and restaurants fill the levels below. The guide points out the Byzantine chain that once stretched across the mouth to block enemy fleets.
  • Bosphorus Cruise: the Bosphorus Cruise lets you absorb Istanbul's waterfront silhouette, Ottoman palaces, Rumelian and Anatolian fortresses, wooden summer mansions, from the water where the city is most legible. This is the most efficient way to see both the European and Asian shores simultaneously before heading inland to Cappadocia.

  • Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): Devrent Valley is sometimes called Pink Valley because of the warm rose tones the rock takes on when the sun sits low on the horizon. Morning and late afternoon visitors see colors that midday visitors never experience, which is worth knowing when planning your day.
  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: Viewing Pasabag's fairy chimneys from multiple positions within the site reveals their three-dimensional complexity in ways that photos simply cannot replicate. Walking all the way around the tallest formation rather than just photographing the front face is one of the best pieces of practical advice for first-time visitors.
  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: At the Avanos pottery workshop, a master craftsman demonstrates the complete throwing process from raw clay to finished vessel in a single live session. Visitors then take a turn at the wheel themselves, and the experience of feeling wet red clay spin under your hands is one of the Red Tour's most memorable moments.
  • Goreme Panoramic View: Cappadocia's landscape looks completely different from above than from within, and Goreme Panoramic View is the clearest demonstration of that difference on the entire Red Tour. Walking through the valleys earlier in the day and then seeing them from this height gives you two complementary understandings of the same place.
  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Zelve Open Air Museum is quieter than other museum sites in the region for structural reasons: it has no famous frescoed churches and no single iconic image that draws visitors from travel content. For travelers who prefer depth over recognition, that relative obscurity is an advantage.
  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Your guide uses Uchisar Castle's exterior stop as an opportunity to draw together the day's geological and historical themes, explaining how the same volcanic ash that formed Devrent Valley's animal shapes eventually became the massive rock fortress visible before you. That narrative connection gives the tour a satisfying intellectual arc.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:30 - Pick up from your hotel.

  • Red Valley: Unlike some of Cappadocia's more commercialized viewpoints, Red Valley retains a raw and natural quality that makes it feel genuinely off the beaten path. Visitor numbers are lower here than at Goreme Open Air Museum, which means the valley is quieter and easier to experience at your own pace.
  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Rose Valley's connection to Cavusin village at its northern end means the walk can finish with a visit to Cappadocia's oldest cliff settlement just minutes from the trail exit. Combining Gulludere Valley with old Cavusin creates a natural half-day route that covers both natural scenery and deep cultural heritage without any backtracking.
  • Cavusin Village: Cavusin is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Cappadocia, with Greek-speaking Christian communities carving homes and churches into its cliff face from at least the 5th century onward. A population exchange between Greece and Turkey in the 1920s ended centuries of habitation in the upper cliff dwellings, leaving the carved facades intact but empty.
  • Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's canyon was formed by the same erosion processes that shaped Cappadocia's fairy chimneys, with a seasonal stream cutting downward through soft volcanic tuff over thousands of years. The valley walls reveal clear horizontal layers of different rock types, each deposited in a separate volcanic event and eroding at a different rate.
  • Underground City: Ancient oil lamp niches are carved into the walls at regular intervals throughout Cappadocia's underground city, positioned to illuminate key intersections and passageways within the tunnel network. Blackening from lamp soot is still visible on the carved ceilings of some lower chambers, the oldest physical evidence of light sources used by the city's original inhabitants.

Day 9 ─

Ephesus Ancient City Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - Pick up from your hotel.

Transfer to Ephesus Ancient City.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Start at the upper gate and walk downhill through Ephesus toward the harbor, this is the same route ancient traders and pilgrims would have taken two thousand years ago. Along the way, you pass the Odeon, the State Agora, and the Temple of Domitian before reaching the busier lower section of the ancient city. By the time you reach the Library of Celsus at the bottom, the layout of the whole city makes perfect sense.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Among all the stops on an Ephesus tour, the House of Virgin Mary is the one most likely to produce genuine silence. Visitors who arrive chatting usually stop talking within moments of entering the chapel. Whether that response comes from religious feeling, aesthetic respect, or simple human awe in a very old place, the effect is real, and consistent enough that guides have noticed it for years.
  • Temple of Artemis: Near the entrance of Selcuk, a lone column rising from a flat, waterlogged field is all that physically remains of the Temple of Artemis, yet that single column tells an enormous story. Built and rebuilt multiple times over several centuries, the temple was finally destroyed and its stones were carried off for use in Byzantine churches and the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. What you see is a reconstruction, but the ground beneath it is original.

16:30 - Tour ends.

Transfer to your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/Selcuk.

Day 10 ─

Pamukkale & Hierapolis Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:00 - Pick up from your hotel.

Transfer to Pamukkale.

  • Pamukkale: Pamukkale has been a destination since Roman times, when emperors and merchants traveled to its warm mineral springs. Today the same thermal water still flows down the hillside, depositing calcium carbonate that gradually builds into those iconic white terraces. Turkey's 'Cotton Castle' sits in Denizli province and remains one of the country's most visited natural wonders.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Each terrace at Pamukkale is a natural basin, its rim built up by calcium carbonate deposits over thousands of years of thermal overflow. The water inside is warm and slightly fizzy, the mineral content that turns the rock white also gives the water a silky, slightly soapy feel. Walking from ledge to ledge with bare feet on warm white travertine is a genuinely unusual sensory experience.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: The on-site museum at Hierapolis is one of the better small archaeological museums in Turkey, housed inside the renovated ancient bathhouse complex. Sculptures, sarcophagi, and everyday objects recovered during decades of excavations are on display in rooms that were once used by Roman bathers. A visit to the museum rounds out the experience of walking the ruins outside and adds context that the stones alone cannot provide.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Pamukkale's thermal springs supply Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool with warm mineral water at 36 degrees Celsius throughout the year. On the pool floor, Roman column drums and marble architectural fragments rest where an earthquake deposited them in the 7th century. The pool's name comes from a legend linking Cleopatra to this ancient bathing spot, whether true or not, it remains one of Turkey's most atmospheric optional swimming experiences, payable on-site and not included in the tour.

The Gallipoli day was incredibly moving and something most Turkey tours dont include. Standing at Lone Pine and Anzac Cove brought tears to my eyes. And thats just ONE day out of fifteen incredible ones. Istanbul to Troy to Ephesus to Pamukkale to Antalya to Cappadocia - each destination was a new kind of amazing. Guide Tuna was phenomenal. This is the ultimate Turkey experience.

The pacing of this 15 day tour is what sets it apart. You never feel like your on a treadmill of sightseeing. Istanbul gets multiple days so you can explore at your own pace. Cappadocia gets three nights which means two full tour days AND a free morning for the balloon or just wandering Goreme. Kusadasi by the Aegean for Ephesus and Pamukkale. Then Antalya coast to relax before heading home. Every flight was domestic and included. I came home refreshed, not exhausted. Thats the mark of a great tour.
