Tour Overview

A full week gives Turkey's four essential destinations the time they actually need. A 7-day Turkey tour from Istanbul spreads across the historic Old City, two complete Cappadocia sightseeing routes, a guided day at Pamukkale's white terraces and Hierapolis, and a full Ephesus visit, with domestic flights and a Bosphorus cruise holding the itinerary together.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Arrival in Istanbul & Hotel Check-in

Arrival in Istanbul and welcome by our airport team. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to your hotel in the city center.

Rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 2 ─

Istanbul Old City & Bosphorus Cruise

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the historical peninsula.

  • Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque: The first stop in Istanbul's old city, Hagia Sophia delivers the most immediate orientation to the city's long dual identity, the Byzantine dome still rises above everything, and the Ottoman prayer space fills the same floor. Plan at least forty minutes to let the scale register properly.
  • Blue Mosque: Walking five minutes across Sultanahmet Square from Hagia Sophia to the Blue Mosque captures the Ottoman response to the Byzantine cathedral in spatial terms. The interior is best appreciated by looking up at the tiered semi-domes and the famous blue tile border near the top.
  • Hippodrome Square: The Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column, and the Column of Constantine in the old Hippodrome ground tell a compressed version of imperial Istanbul, one monument from Thutmose III, one from the Greek victory at Plataea, one from Constantine himself.

Around 13:00 - The old city section ends here, and you will have about 1.5 hours of free time before the Bosphorus program continues.

Lunch is included during the day; depending on the daily operation, it may be served on the boat or at a local restaurant.

  • Bosphorus Cruise: Completing the day with a Bosphorus cruise shifts Istanbul from land to water and shows the city in its most expansive geographic context: the full width of the strait, the two continents, waterfront mansions, Ottoman palaces, bridges, and neighborhoods that are difficult to understand from the old city streets alone. Seeing Europe and Asia from the water gives the day a broader sense of scale after the morning's monuments.

16:00 - Transfer back to your hotel after the city route.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 3 ─

Fly to Cappadocia & North Cappadocia Red Tour

Meal: Lunch

04:00 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

06:40 - Flight from Istanbul to Cappadocia. (Flight time may change.)

08:00 - Arrival in Cappadocia and transfer to the tour area. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

  • Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): In contrast to Pasabag's tall, dramatic fairy chimneys, Devrent Valley's formations are shorter, wider, and more varied in shape. That variety is precisely what makes Devrent memorable: no two columns look the same, and the landscape rewards patient observation.
  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: Pasabag's site includes fragments of fresco visible inside one of the accessible cave chapels, though the paintings are faint compared to Goreme Open Air Museum's more famous examples. They are worth examining closely because the setting, inside a fairy chimney rather than a carved cliff, is unique.
  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: Wheel-throwing at Avanos is surprisingly accessible for first-time participants: the instructor guides your hands through the basic centering and pulling steps, and most visitors produce a recognizable shape within five minutes. What feels impossible in the first thirty seconds usually clicks quickly.
  • Goreme Panoramic View: Goreme Panoramic View marks a natural midpoint in the Red Tour day, coming after the northern valley stops and before the museum sites. The brief pause at height gives travelers a moment to orient themselves and prepare for the second half of the itinerary.
  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Autumn visits to Zelve benefit from lower light angles that emphasize the texture of the carved stone surfaces and add depth to the facade photographs. Spring visits find the valley floor greener and softer in tone. Both seasons produce better visual results than the flat midday light of a peak summer visit.
  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Uchisar Castle is Cappadocia's highest natural rock formation, rising approximately sixty meters above the surrounding plateau and visible from nearly every part of the region. Centuries of carving have left its face studded with hundreds of windows and passages at every level, making it look as much built as grown.

17:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Cappadocia after the tour.

Overnight stay in Cappadocia

Day 4 ─

09:30 - Pick up from your hotel after breakfast and check-out.

Transfer to the South Cappadocia tour area.

  • Red Valley: Walking Red Valley's trail from north to south, you descend gradually into the valley floor before climbing back up to the rim at the far end. The route passes several large natural arches and undercut cliff bases where erosion has hollowed out the lower rock to create overhanging shelves.
  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Gulludere Valley is narrower and more intimate than Cappadocia's wider canyon landscapes, making it well-suited to a walking pace rather than a drive-by visit. Its scale is human rather than monumental, with carved churches, carved homes, and carved dovecotes all within touching distance of the trail.
  • Cavusin Village: Cavusin's Church of Saint John the Baptist, cut into the highest accessible point of the cliff above the village, dates to the 5th century and contains some of Cappadocia's oldest surviving rock-cut architecture. Reaching the church requires a short climb through the abandoned upper village, passing carved homes and storage rooms on the way up.
  • Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's trail is most rewarding during morning hours when sunlight enters the canyon from the east and illuminates the carved cliff faces on the western wall. As the sun rises higher and light floods the full canyon, the shadows that define the pigeon house openings flatten and the textured rock surface becomes less dramatic.
  • Underground City: A carved winery found in Cappadocia's underground city reveals that communities produced and stored wine underground, using carved troughs for pressing grapes and carved vessels for fermentation. Wine production underground served both cultural and practical purposes, allowing the community to maintain a central part of their social and religious life even during long periods of concealment.

16:00 - Transfer to Cappadocia airport after the tour. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

19:30 - Flight from Cappadocia to Izmir via Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

23:45 - Arrival in Izmir and transfer to your hotel in Kusadasi/selcuk. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/selcuk

Day 5 ─

Pamukkale Travertines & Hierapolis Day Trip

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi/selcuk and transfer to Pamukkale.

  • Pamukkale: Walk barefoot on warm white stone, look down at turquoise pools, and look up at ancient ruins, that is what Pamukkale offers in a single afternoon. The travertine terraces in Denizli province formed over millennia as calcium carbonate slowly built up from overflowing thermal springs. UNESCO included the entire hillside and the ancient city above in its World Heritage list.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Barefoot is the only way to experience the white calcium terraces of Pamukkale properly. Rules require shoes off before you step onto the travertine, which turns out to be one of the best rules in Turkish tourism, the warm smooth surface underfoot is unlike anything you will feel elsewhere. Morning light makes the white terraces glow, and that is when the best photographs happen.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Hierapolis was still actively inhabited during Byzantine times, and a large basilica near the center of the site marks the period when Christianity replaced the old pagan temples. The transition is visible in the architecture: earlier Roman marble was reused in Byzantine construction, and the old bath complex was converted into a Christian space. These layered histories make the ruins above Pamukkale unusually rich for a site of this size.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Swimming in Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool means sharing the water with submerged Roman column fragments that have been on the pool floor since an earthquake struck Hierapolis in the 7th century. The water is 36 degrees Celsius, mineral-rich, and comfortably clear enough to see the ancient stonework beneath your feet. Entry is not included in the tour and is paid on-site, bring cash or card for this optional extra.

16:00 - Transfer back to your hotel in Kusadasi/selcuk after the Pamukkale route.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/selcuk

Day 6 ─

Full Day Ephesus Tour & Return Flight to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - Pick up from your hotel in Kusadasi/selcuk and transfer to the Ephesus tour area.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Hadrian's Temple, tucked along Curetes Street in Ephesus, is small compared to the Great Theatre or the Library, but its carved arch and detailed friezes make it one of the most elegant structures in the ancient city. The faces of Medusa and Tyche carved above the doorway have survived centuries remarkably well. Your guide can explain the symbolism behind each figure, turning a quick stop into a memorable lesson.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Leaving the House of Virgin Mary, many visitors describe a feeling of calm that stays with them for the rest of the day. Whether that comes from the mountain setting, the forest air, the sacred associations, or simply the slower pace of the visit after the busy Ephesus ruins is hard to say. What is clear is that most Ephesus itineraries include it for exactly that reason, it completes the day in a way nothing else can.
  • Temple of Artemis: Destroyed and rebuilt three times before its final destruction in 401 AD, the Temple of Artemis had a life span measured in centuries and a reputation that stretched across the entire ancient world. Ancient writers listed it as one of the Seven Wonders because of its massive scale and the quality of its decoration, 127 columns, each 18 meters tall, surrounding a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess of the hunt. One column remains today as a marker of where all that wonder once stood.

17:00 - Transfer to Izmir Airport after the Ephesus route. (Pickup time may change.)

19:30 - Flight from Izmir to Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

20:30 - Arrival in Istanbul and transfer to your hotel. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Tour Overview

Why This Week-Long Classic Works Better Than You'd Expect

  • Istanbul gets a proper two-day opening, old city monuments on Day 2 and a Bosphorus Cruise closing Day 2, so the capital doesn't feel like a drive-by.
  • Cappadocia receives two consecutive days, which means you can do both the north and south tour routes back to back and actually feel like you've seen the region.
  • Pamukkale and Ephesus each get their own full day, so neither destination gets squeezed into a rushed combination stop.
  • Flights move you efficiently between Istanbul, Cappadocia, and the Aegean coast without sacrificing time on the ground at each destination.
  • Hotels, entrance fees, licensed guides, and transfers are all pre-arranged, the week flows with zero day-of logistics stress.

For the same Istanbul-to-Cappadocia route with one more overnight, our 8 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour adds a full extra day across the same four regions.
Prefer a longer Turkey experience with nine days and more sightseeing? Our 9 Days Istanbul, Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia Tour covers the same highlights at an even more relaxed pace.

Seven days covering the best of Turkey and every single day was amazing. Istanbul to start with Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. Then flew to Cappadocia for hot air balloon ride at sunrise (absolutley incredible), underground cities and fairy chimneys. Pamukkale was surreal with those white terraces. Ephesus to finish was mind blowing, the ruins are in such good condition. Guide Emre was with us the entire week and he became like a friend by the end. Hotels were all great, food was delicious. This tour is the perfect way to see Turkey if you have a week.

7 days was the perfect length for this tour. Started in Istanbul which was already incredible, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are even more impressive in person. Then flew to Cappadocia which felt like landing on Mars with all the rock formations. The hot air balloon at sunrise was hands down the best experince of my life. Pamukkale was beautful and relaxing, walking barefoot on the warm white terraces. Finished with Ephesus which is just jaw droppingly massive. All the guides were great, all transfers were on time. Toursce sorted everything. 10/10 Turkey trip.
