Tour Overview

This 17-day Turkey tour starts directly from Istanbul with the Gallipoli battlefields and then follows a broad western and southern route through Troy, Ephesus, Pamukkale, Antalya, Demre, Myra, Kekova, and Cappadocia before returning to Istanbul. It is designed for travelers who want the major heritage sites of Turkey, but also want Antalya to breathe rather than appear as a one-night transit point.

The route combines war history, legendary archaeology, Aegean classical cities, white thermal terraces, Mediterranean coastal days, boat scenery, and three different Cappadocia routes. Free days in Antalya make the itinerary softer, while the guided touring days keep the historical content rich and structured.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Gallipoli War Zones from Istanbul

Meal: Lunch

06:30 - 07:00 - Pick up from your Istanbul hotel and drive to Gallipoli. (The pick-up time depends on the hotel location.) The drive takes about 5 hours with a scenic road and one break on the way.

  • Brighton Beach: Brighton Beach gives the first sense of the Gallipoli shoreline and helps explain why the landing plan was so difficult once geography, cliffs, and narrow beach access came into play.
  • Beach Cemetery: Beach Cemetery is a quiet Commonwealth burial ground close to the original landing area, giving the battlefield story a deeply human scale.
  • ANZAC Cove: ANZAC Cove is the small coastal curve where the Australian and New Zealand forces landed in April 1915; seeing its size makes the campaign feel far more immediate.
  • Ari Burnu: Ari Burnu marks the northern point of the cove and connects the sea approach with the steep ground that shaped the first hours of the landing.
  • Lone Pine: Lone Pine is one of the most powerful memorial areas on the peninsula, remembered for intense close fighting and the heavy losses of August 1915.
  • Johnston's Jolly: Johnston's Jolly preserves trench lines where opposing forces were only meters apart, showing the brutal closeness of the Gallipoli front.
  • Shrapnel Valley: Shrapnel Valley was a vital route inland from the beach and one of the exposed lines used by soldiers moving between the coast and the ridges.
  • Turkish Memorial: The Turkish Memorial honors the Ottoman soldiers who defended the peninsula and places the campaign in the wider story of Turkish national memory.
  • The Nek: The Nek is a narrow ridge remembered for one of the most tragic assaults of the campaign, where terrain and timing shaped the outcome.
  • Chunuk Bair: Chunuk Bair offers one of the strongest ridge views in Gallipoli and shows why control of the high ground mattered so much.

17:30 - The tour ends. Your guide will leave you at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Canakkale.

Day 2 ─

Morning Troy Tour & Intercity Bus to Izmir

Meal: Breakfast

08:30 - After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the tour area.

  • Troy Ancient City: The ruins of Troy reveal a multi-layered city rebuilt across thousands of years; your guide connects the archaeology with the legendary world of the Trojan War.
  • Trojan Horse (Movie Replica): The wooden horse replica gives the legendary story a clear visual starting point and remains one of the most recognizable photo stops of the site.
  • Sacrificial Altars: The sacrificial altars show the ritual side of ancient Troy, where public life, religion, and civic identity met.
  • 3700-Year-Old City Walls: The ancient walls show why Troy was imagined as a fortified settlement of power, prestige, and strategic control.
  • Houses of Troy I (3000-2500 B.C.): The early house remains reveal the domestic scale of one of the oldest settlement layers on the hill.
  • The Agora of Troy: The agora area reflects the later civic life of Troy, showing how the city continued long after the Bronze Age legends.

11:00 - The tour ends and you will be transferred to Canakkale Bus Station.

13:30 - Intercity bus to Izmir or another closer city in Izmir. (Departure time may vary.) It will take about 6 hours.

Once you arrive in the evening, you will be transferred to your hotel for a leisure evening.

Day 3 ─

Ephesus Ancient City Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

  • Great Theatre: The Great Theatre held thousands of spectators and shows the scale of entertainment, politics, and public gathering in Roman Ephesus.
  • Terrace Houses optional: The Terrace Houses are an optional paid section where mosaics, wall paintings, and private rooms reveal elite Roman domestic life.
  • Temple of Hadrian: The Temple of Hadrian is one of the best-preserved small monuments in Ephesus, with elegant reliefs and a strong position on Curetes Street.
  • Marble Road: The Marble Road links major civic areas and still carries the feeling of a Roman city built for ceremony and movement.
  • Agora: The agora was the commercial and social center where trade, meetings, and daily city life took place.
  • House of Virgin Mary: The House of Virgin Mary is a quiet hillside sanctuary visited by both Christian pilgrims and travelers interested in sacred tradition.
  • Temple of Artemis: The Temple of Artemis remains as traces of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, giving the Ephesus visit a wider ancient context.

Tour Overview

Why this 17-day Turkey tour is different

  • Antalya is not rushed: Free days, Perge-Aspendos-Side, Antalya Old City, Demre-Myra-Kekova, and extra rest time create a fuller Mediterranean chapter.
  • Three Cappadocia routes: Red, Green, and Yellow routes give valleys, underground cities, panoramic stops, and village landscapes instead of repeating one short Cappadocia pattern.
  • Western heritage in logical order: Gallipoli, Troy, Ephesus, and Pamukkale are connected from north to south before the tour turns toward Antalya.
  • Boat and coastal scenery included: Kekova and Antalya boat sections add water-level views, ruins, harbors, and Mediterranean texture to the historical route.
  • Balanced pace for a long trip: Free days are placed after major transfer and touring blocks, so the route feels more comfortable over seventeen days.
  • Flights reduce the hardest distances: The Antalya-Cappadocia and Cappadocia-Istanbul flights keep the long route practical without removing the overland heritage sections.
  • Related option: For a shorter long-form route, compare the 15 Days Turkey Tour from Istanbul.
