Tour Overview

Most Gallipoli tours cover only the ANZAC sector. The Cape Helles and Anzac tour from Canakkale walks you through both the southern British landing beaches and the northern ANZAC battlefields in a single guided day, completing the full peninsula story from V Beach and Achi Baba Hill to Lone Pine Cemetery and Chunuk Bair.

Cape Helles and ANZAC Tour RouteExpand briefing

Kilitbahir Fortress -> Achi Baba -> V Beach -> Cape Helles Memorial -> ANZAC Cove -> Lone Pine -> 57th Regiment -> The Nek -> Chunuk Bair

Briefing

  • Kilitbahir Fortress: Kilitbahir Fortress opens the day by anchoring the entire Gallipoli campaign in its naval origins at the narrowest point of the Dardanelles. Understanding why the strait mattered so much to the Allied war plan adds a strategic weight that enriches every memorial and cemetery you visit afterwards.

  • Achi Baba and the Cape Helles line: Achi Baba looms above the southern front as the objective the British forces never fully captured, and climbing toward its slopes reveals why elevation and exposure cost so many lives. The guide explains the repeated offensives here so that the Cape Helles Memorial, just ahead, carries its full weight.

  • V Beach and Cape Helles Memorial: V Beach is where soldiers waded through gunfire onto a defended shore, and the sand still feels heavy with that history. The Cape Helles Memorial standing nearby lists over twenty thousand names with no known grave, an immense act of remembrance that most half-day tours never reach.

  • ANZAC Cove: After lunch the route swings north to ANZAC Cove, where the familiar name suddenly becomes a narrow, steep-sided beach that instantly explains the confusion and vulnerability of the dawn landings. This transition from the southern British story to the ANZAC sector is one of the most powerful shifts in tone any single-day battlefield tour can offer.

  • Lone Pine and Johnston's Jolly: Lone Pine is the most visited Australian war memorial at Gallipoli, and standing among its rows of headstones after already walking V Beach gives the sacrifice a comparative depth that shorter tours rarely achieve. Johnston's Jolly then adds trench-level proximity, placing you between lines that sat mere metres apart.

  • 57th Regiment, The Nek, and Chunuk Bair: The 57th Regiment Memorial honours the Ottoman soldiers who held this ground against overwhelming odds, balancing the day's ANZAC focus with equal respect. The Nek follows with its narrow ridge of tragic charges, and Chunuk Bair closes the tour at a summit where New Zealand memory and panoramic strategy converge.

  1. 17:00 - Tour ends and return transfer.

At the end of the full-day route, you are transferred back to your hotel in Canakkale or Eceabat.

Tour Overview

Why should ANZAC heritage travelers choose the full-day route?

  • Cape Helles and V Beach reveal the British landing tragedy that most shorter tours skip entirely, honouring a side of the campaign that shaped the southern front from its first hours.
  • Kilitbahir Fortress connects the Dardanelles naval story to the land campaign, giving the day a strategic prologue that makes every battlefield stop afterwards more meaningful.
  • ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine, and Chunuk Bair complete the heritage arc by moving north into the sector where Australian and New Zealand troops fought for ridgelines still visible from the memorials.
  • The 57th Regiment Memorial honours Ottoman sacrifice with the same gravity as the Allied cemeteries, keeping the tour balanced across every nation that bled on this peninsula.
  • A full eight-hour route means no memorial is rushed so you leave with a complete understanding instead of fragments from a shortened afternoon visit.
  • Lunch between the two sectors provides a natural reset that separates the southern and northern chapters of the campaign without breaking the emotional thread of the day.

Walk where your ancestors fought and let their story reach you through the landscape itself. Continue the Dardanelles journey with a Troy day tour from Canakkale or combine both legends in the Troy and Gallipoli tour.

this was the highlight of our Turkey trip. walking where the soldiers fought gave me chills. Lone Pine cemetery had me in tears honestly. We were nervous about booking online but everything was exactly as described. as someone with family who served here this was deeply personal. I want to specifically thank Ali who made this experience truly memorable. lunch spots were great. We will definetly be back for more tours in Turkey.

Comprehensive battlefield tour covering both the Allied landing zones. As a French person it was meaningful to see the Cape Helles area where French forces also landed. Most tours skip that entirely. The ANZAC portion is the more well known part but seeing both gives you the full picture of the campaign. Guide was informative. Only minor thing is theres alot of stops so you dont spend too long at each one. Bring comfortable shoes, theres walking involved.
