Tour Overview

Few places compress so much history into so small a geography. Eight hours from your Canakkale hotel cover the excavated layers of ancient Troy, a ferry crossing of the Dardanelles, and the ANZAC memorials of Gallipoli peninsula. Two of history's most resonant stories, one guided day, one departure from your hotel door.

Briefing

  • Troy Ancient City: Visiting Troy with a guide transforms what looks like ruins into a clear narrative spanning nine civilizations and four thousand years.

  • Trojan Horse (Movie Replica): Even visitors unfamiliar with the Iliad recognize the wooden horse immediately: it is one of mythology's most universally known objects.

  • Sacrificial Altars: Troy's altar areas give visitors a window into ancient Anatolian religious life that is often overlooked in favour of the more famous Homeric legends.

  • 3700-Year-Old City Walls: More than 3,700 years after they were built, sections of Troy's Bronze Age walls remain standing, defying the erosion that has claimed most ancient structures.

  • Houses of Troy I (3000-2500 B.C.): Archaeological finds from Troy I include simple pottery, stone tools, and animal bones, painting a picture of a modest but permanent early community.

  • The Agora of Troy: Marble column bases and stone paving blocks are still visible in Troy's agora, giving visitors a clear sense of how grand the space once was.

  • Beach Cemetery: The final resting place of many ANZAC soldiers, located just steps from the sea where they landed in 1915.

  • ANZAC Cove: The narrow beach where the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps made their landing under heavy fire.

  • Ari Burnu Cemetery: A peaceful cemetery with scenic sea views, holding many graves from the early days of the campaign.

  • ANZAC Commemorative Site: A symbolic area where annual dawn services are held, honoring all soldiers who fought here.

  • Respect to Mehmetcik Monument: A moving tribute to the Turkish soldiers who bravely defended their homeland during the campaign.

  • Lone Pine Australian Memorial: Commemorating Australian soldiers, this site includes trenches and a monument to fallen heroes.

  • Johnston's Jolly: Walk through preserved Turkish and Allied trenches that bring the brutal conditions of trench warfare to life.

  • Turkish 57th Infantry Regiment Cemetery: Dedicated to the regiment that fought to the last man during the initial landings.

  • The Nek: A narrow ridge where tragic charges took place; a symbolic location featured in history and film.

  • Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial: A high ridge offering dramatic views, where New Zealand forces made a valiant push in August 1915.

  1. 17:30 - Tour ends and transfer back to Canakkale.

After the Gallipoli section ends, you return to your hotel in Canakkale and the full-day program finishes.

Tour Overview

Two Legends, One Day, Why This Canakkale Route Works So Well

  • Geography that earns its combination: Troy and Gallipoli are separated by the Dardanelles strait, the same waterway both civilizations fought to control. The route makes that geographic logic visible rather than arbitrary.
  • Bronze Age meets modern remembrance: Moving from 3,700-year-old city walls in the morning to WWI trenches and cemeteries in the afternoon creates one of the sharpest historical contrasts any day tour in Turkey offers.
  • The ferry crossing is part of the experience: Crossing the Dardanelles by boat between the two sites adds genuine atmosphere and gives the day an organic transition rather than a logistical gap.
  • Everything is covered from one Canakkale base: Ferry ticket, guide, lunch, entry fees, and hotel transfers are all pre-arranged, so there is nothing to coordinate on the day.
  • Ideal for travelers with only one free day in the region: Both headline destinations in a single compact itinerary means no second booking required to see the area's defining historical landmarks.

This tour is the most time-efficient way to cover the Canakkale region's two defining stories from a single base. Did both Troy and Gallipoli in one day from Canakkale and it was packed in the best way. Troy in the morning was cool, climbing inside the wooden horse replica and walking the ancient ruins. Then we took the ferry across the Dardanelles which was a nice break. Gallipoli in the afternoon was very emotional, especially Lone Pine Cemetery. As an Australian it ment a lot to be there. The guide told stories of individual soldiers which made it very personal. Lunch was included and decent. Whole day was well paced and we were back at our hotel by evening.
