connecting Homer's Iliad to the actual ruins was amazing. Our group of 3 all agreed this was the best day of the trip. Troy is smaller than expected but the history is massive. Troy has so many layers of civilization its fascinating. Standing at Troy was surreal. Growing up reading about the Trojan War and then actually being there, walking on the ancient city walls that are 3700 years old. The wooden horse replica is great for photos. Our guide explained all 9 layers of civilisation built on top of each other which was facinating. Quick but worth it. We were in Canakkale for 2 nights and booked the morning Troy tour. The site is smaller than I expected but having a guide makes all the difference. Without one youd just see some old walls, but the guide brought it to life explaining which layer was Homers Troy, where Schliemann dug, the sacrificial altars and the agora. Climbed inside the big wooden horse too which was fun. Back to Canakkale by lunch time so we still had the rest of the day free. Good value for money.

Joined the trip to visit the archeological site of Troy whilst staying in Canakkale. Its located on the eastern bank of the Aegean Sea, which is cradled in mythology and has been the state for tragedies, wars, and victories for many centuries. Just ruins of the ancient city and the replica Trojan horse but worth a visit. You can climb up inside of the wooden horse. It was very good to be with a local guide for the history of Troy.
