Tour Overview

When your Turkey time is limited to the western half, these three cities matter most. A 6-day western Turkey tour delivers two days in Istanbul including a Bosphorus cruise, a full guided day at ancient Ephesus, and the calcium-white pools of Pamukkale, with domestic flights connecting the cities so no day is lost to driving.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Arrival in Istanbul

On arrival at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, our team welcomes you at the exit gate. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to your hotel in central Istanbul.

Rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 2 ─

Istanbul Old City Full Day

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Sultanahmet.

  • Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque: Hagia Sophia is where the trip properly begins, a building that functioned as the world's preeminent Christian church for a thousand years before Mehmed II converted it to a mosque in 1453. Every surface tells two or more stories at once: Byzantine gold mosaics partially visible beneath Ottoman calligraphy panels, Roman column capitals from temples across the empire reused in its nave.
  • Blue Mosque: Directly opposite Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616 as Sultan Ahmed I's attempt to rival the Byzantine masterpiece across the plaza. The interior's 20,000 Iznik tiles and the play of light through 260 windows create a calming, almost oceanic atmosphere compared to the drama of Hagia Sophia.
  • Hippodrome Square: The Hippodrome Square occupies the site of the greatest chariot racing venue in the ancient world, and three original monuments still mark its central spine. The Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius, brought from Karnak in 390 AD, still stands in near-perfect condition on its original base with relief carvings of the emperor watching the races below.
  • Grand Bazaar: The Grand Bazaar is less a single market and more a labyrinthine neighborhood of trade that grew organically from Ottoman commercial traditions over 500 years. Wandering beyond the main arteries into the quieter side lanes reveals specialist shops for copperwork, calligraphy supplies, and antique tiles that feel a long way from the tourist souvenir stalls.
  • Topkapi Palace: Topkapi Palace was the administrative and residential center of the Ottoman Empire for nearly 400 years, housing the sultans, their court, and the state treasuries in a series of interlocking courtyards overlooking the Bosphorus. The Imperial Treasury, the relics in the Sacred Trust section, and the harem apartments each tell a different and richly detailed story about Ottoman power.

17:00 - Transfer back to your hotel after the guided tour.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 3 ─

Half Day Bosphorus Cruise Tour

Meal: Breakfast

Rest of the morning at leisure after breakfast.

13:30 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the pier.

  • Dolmabahce Palace: Dolmabahce Palace was built in the 1840s as a deliberate break from the fortress-like Topkapi tradition, a European Baroque statement along the Bosphorus waterfront that signaled the reforming ambitions of the late Ottoman court. Seeing its 600-meter waterfront facade from the water on the cruise gives the building a scale and drama that is impossible to appreciate from inside.
  • Ciragan Palace: Ciragan Palace was built for Sultan Murad V but is now one of Istanbul's most famous luxury hotels, its Ottoman facade still intact along the shoreline. From the water it reads as a monument to the late empire's taste for European architectural grandeur applied to a landscape that is unmistakably Asian in character.
  • Beylerbeyi Palace: Beylerbeyi Palace on the Asian shore was the sultans' summer residence and later served as a gilded prison for Murad V. Passing it on the cruise is one of the clearest signals that Istanbul is genuinely a two-continent city, the palaces continue uninterrupted across the water.
  • Maiden's Tower: Maiden's Tower sits on a small island just off the Asian shore at the point where the Bosphorus meets the Sea of Marmara, a location that has held watchtowers, lighthouses, and quarantine stations for over two millennia. Its compact silhouette is one of Istanbul's most enduring visual signatures, more recognizable in some ways than the city's famous minarets.
  • Bosphorus Bridges: The two Bosphorus suspension bridges, the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, are the physical connectors between Europe and Asia that make Istanbul's continental claim tangible rather than abstract. Passing beneath their spans from the deck of the cruise boat is one of the more memorable moments of the entire journey.

16:00 - Transfer back to your hotel after the Bosphorus Cruise.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 4 ─

Fly to Izmir & Explore Ephesus

Meal: Lunch

05:00 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

07:30 - Flight from Istanbul to Izmir. (Flight time may change.)

08:30 - Arrival in Izmir and transfer to the tour area. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

  • Ephesus Ancient City: At the northern end of Ephesus, the State Agora and Odeon form the political heart of the ancient city, the Odeon seated around 1,500 for council meetings and musical performances, while the Agora handled administrative and commercial functions. These quieter northern structures get less attention than the Library of Celsus, but they are where much of the city's actual governance happened. Starting your visit here before the crowds arrive makes for a memorable first impression.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Leaving the House of Virgin Mary, many visitors describe a feeling of calm that stays with them for the rest of the day. Whether that comes from the mountain setting, the forest air, the sacred associations, or simply the slower pace of the visit after the busy Ephesus ruins is hard to say. What is clear is that most Ephesus itineraries include it for exactly that reason, it completes the day in a way nothing else can.
  • Temple of Artemis: Destroyed and rebuilt three times before its final destruction in 401 AD, the Temple of Artemis had a life span measured in centuries and a reputation that stretched across the entire ancient world. Ancient writers listed it as one of the Seven Wonders because of its massive scale and the quality of its decoration, 127 columns, each 18 meters tall, surrounding a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess of the hunt. One column remains today as a marker of where all that wonder once stood.

16:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk after the tour.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/Selcuk

Day 5 ─

Pamukkale & Flight Back to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

07:30 - Pick up from your hotel, check out, and transfer to Pamukkale.

  • Pamukkale: Before you look at the ruins, take a moment to look at the hillside. Pamukkale's white travertine formation in Denizli province is one of the most visually striking natural features in Turkey, shaped over millennia by thermal springs carrying dissolved minerals. Every layer of rock you see represents hundreds of years of quiet, patient geology.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Pamukkale's white calcium terraces do not look the same throughout the day. Early morning light turns the travertine pale gold; midday sun bleaches it to almost pure white; late afternoon brings warm shadows that reveal the texture of each mineral layer. Visiting at golden hour means the pools reflect the sky, turning the whole hillside into a landscape of blue and white.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Hierapolis did not decline the way most ancient cities did, it was largely abandoned after a series of devastating earthquakes. Those same earthquakes toppled columns and tilted walls into poses that photographers love, and the dry hilltop climate preserved much of what fell. Today the Greco-Roman ruins cover an enormous area above Pamukkale's thermal terraces, with a dedicated on-site museum holding the finest artifacts recovered during excavations.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Submerged Roman columns lie scattered across the floor of Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool, toppled by an ancient earthquake and left exactly where they fell. Warm mineral water at 36 degrees Celsius fills the pool year-round, surrounding the column drums and marble fragments with a natural bath that has been in use since antiquity. Swimming among genuine Roman ruins is an unusual experience, entry is not included in the tour price and must be paid on-site.

16:00 - Transfer to Denizli Airport after the tour.

19:45 - Flight from Denizli to Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

21:00 - Arrival in Istanbul and transfer to your hotel. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Tour Overview

Why This Three-City Western Turkey Package Earns Its Place

  • Istanbul gets two proper days, the old city landmarks on day two and the Bosphorus waterway perspective on day three, which together give the city more than a rushed transit.
  • The Bosphorus Cruise breaks the museum-heavy rhythm midway through the trip and shows Istanbul from the water, where the continental divide between Europe and Asia becomes visceral.
  • Ephesus is handled from Kusadasi/Selcuk on a fresh morning, which is the most productive way to visit the ancient city before midday heat and tour groups peak.
  • Pamukkale follows Ephesus in a single overland day trip, saving an extra night and an extra flight without cutting time at either site.
  • Domestic flights bookend the Aegean section so you return to Istanbul the same evening as Pamukkale, ready for your international departure.

One extra day transforms this trip: our 7 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour adds Cappadocia to Istanbul, Ephesus, and Pamukkale for a fuller Turkey experience.
For an eight-day version that includes Antalya and the coast, our 8-day Turkey tour is the next level up.

lunch spots were great. we made friends with other travelers in the group. the thermal pools were so warm and relaxing. After reading reviews online we decided to go for it and zero regrets. swimming in Cleopatras pool with ancient columns was cool. Our guide Selim deserves special mention - genuinely passionate and so fun to be around. the food in Istanbul alone is worth the trip tbh. Already reccomending this to everyone I know.

The perfect combo of city, history, and nature. Istanbul days were all about the incredible architecture and the Bosphorus cruise. Then flying to the Aegean coast for Ephesus which absolutely blew my mind, the scale of those Roman ruins is hard to believe. Pamukkale was the most unique natural site ive ever visited, those white terraces with warm water flowing over them are surreal. Kusadasi hotel was lovely with a sea view. All guides were professional and friendly. 6 days felt like the perfect length for these three destinations.
