Tour Overview

Turkey's Aegean arc holds some of the ancient world's most impressive sites, all within flight range of Istanbul. A 6-day Istanbul and Aegean tour pairs two days in the historic Old City with the mineral-white pools of Pamukkale, a full day at Ephesus, and a Bosphorus afternoon to close the trip.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Arrival in Istanbul & City Transfer

Meal: No Meal

Upon arrival at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, our team will meet you at the exit gate with a sign.

Transfer to your hotel in the city center for check-in.

Rest of the day at leisure in Istanbul.

Overnight stay in Istanbul.

Day 2 ─

Istanbul Full Day Historical Peninsula Walking Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:30 - After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to Istanbul's historical peninsula.

  • Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque: Hagia Sophia's vast interior, built in just five years in 537 AD, shows what the Byzantine Empire was capable of at its most confident. The pendentive dome, still the largest of its kind built before the modern era, creates a sense of weightless height that impresses even seasoned travelers.
  • Blue Mosque: Built directly opposite Hagia Sophia to proclaim Ottoman supremacy in stone and tile, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque fills its interior with over twenty thousand hand-painted Iznik tiles. Its iconic skyline silhouette makes it Istanbul's most recognizable landmark after the Bosphorus itself.
  • Hippodrome Square: The Hippodrome functioned as Constantinople's civic center for a thousand years, a space for races, celebrations, and political theatre. Three surviving ancient monuments in the central reservation tell the story of how this city collected the spoils of an empire.
  • Topkapi Palace: For four centuries, every significant decision of the Ottoman Empire was made within these walls. The sprawling complex of courtyards, treasury rooms, and the famous harem offers a remarkably complete portrait of imperial life.
  • Grand Bazaar: Dating to 1461, the Grand Bazaar is one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, with over four thousand shops organized into named streets by trade. Closing the Istanbul day here adds noise, color, and urban life to what has been a monumental morning.

Transfer back to your hotel when the city route ends, around 17:00.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Day 3 ─

Flight to Izmir & Full Day Ephesus Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

04:00 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport in Istanbul. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

07:20 - Flight from Istanbul to Izmir. (Flight time may change.)

08:30 - Arrival at Izmir Airport and meet our staff. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to the Ephesus tour area.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Start at the upper gate and walk downhill through Ephesus toward the harbor, this is the same route ancient traders and pilgrims would have taken two thousand years ago. Along the way, you pass the Odeon, the State Agora, and the Temple of Domitian before reaching the busier lower section of the ancient city. By the time you reach the Library of Celsus at the bottom, the layout of the whole city makes perfect sense.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Founded in recognition of biblical accounts placing Mary in the Ephesus region after the Crucifixion, this chapel on Bulbul Mountain attracts both devout pilgrims and curious travelers who want to understand why so many people make the climb. The mix of motivations in the small courtyard, religious, historical, cultural, creates a surprisingly open and tolerant atmosphere. Few sacred sites in Turkey welcome such a wide range of visitors.
  • Temple of Artemis: Visiting the Temple of Artemis requires a short detour from the main Ephesus site, but for travelers with an interest in ancient history, it is worth every minute. The contrast between what once stood here, one of the greatest buildings of the ancient world, and what remains today makes the site genuinely thought-provoking. A good guide turns that contrast into a lesson about the fragility of even the most ambitious human constructions.

Transfer to your hotel in Kusadasi or Selcuk after the tour.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi

Day 4 ─

Pamukkale Terraces and Hierapolis & Evening Flight to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

07:30 - Pick up from your hotel and drive to Pamukkale. The scenic drive takes around 2.5 hours and includes one comfort break on the way.

  • Pamukkale: Denizli province holds one of Turkey's most surprising landscapes: a brilliant white hillside called Pamukkale. Thermal water rich in calcium carbonate has been flowing down this slope for thousands of years, building up smooth travertine terraces and shallow pools. UNESCO recognized the site in 1988, pairing it with the ancient Greco-Roman city that once thrived here.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Pamukkale's travertine looks bright white in photographs, but standing on it you notice subtle textures: ridges, ripples, and mineral patterns left by thousands of years of flowing water. The surface underfoot shifts between smooth and slightly rough depending on how recently each section was active. These small details remind you that this is not a built structure, it is geology in slow motion.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Walking through Hierapolis, you cover roughly two kilometers from the city's northern necropolis to its southern gate, with the theater and main temple area roughly in the middle. That distance sounds manageable but the open hillside provides no shade in summer, so comfortable shoes and water are essential. The site above Pamukkale rewards slow exploration, there are details carved into nearly every fallen column worth stopping for.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool delivers a genuinely unusual combination: swimming in open water surrounded by ancient Roman columns at a comfortable 36 degrees Celsius. The columns fell into the pool during a powerful earthquake centuries ago, and conservationists have left them in place as part of the site's history. If this sounds like your kind of optional extra, bring money for the on-site entry fee, which is not covered by the tour.

Around 16:30 - Transfer to Denizli Airport after the tour. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

21:00 - Evening flight from Denizli to Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

22:15 - Arrival at an airport in Istanbul and meet our team at the exit of the airport. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to your hotel in Istanbul.

Day 5 ─

Leisurely Morning & Afternoon Bosphorus

Meal: Breakfast

A leisurely morning at your own pace in Istanbul.

13:30 - Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the pier for your Bosphorus Cruise.

  • Bosphorus Cruise: A cruise on the Bosphorus frames Istanbul from the water, the perspective that shows why this city, sitting at the exact meeting point of Europe and Asia, became one of history's most fought-over prizes. The cruise glides past Ottoman palaces, wooden waterfront mansions, and medieval fortresses.
  • Waterfront landmarks: From the boat you see Dolmabahce Palace, the Ortakoy Mosque with the suspension bridge behind it, Rumeli Fortress, and the forest-covered hills of the Bosphorus villages. This is the panoramic Istanbul that street-level touring alone cannot show.

Transfer back to your hotel when the cruise ends, around 17:00.

Overnight stay in Istanbul

Note: Even if you choose the private tour option, the Day 5 cruise will be operated as a group cruise. If you would like a private yacht, we can arrange it for an extra fee. If you book the group option, hotel pick-up/drop-off, guiding, and the cruise will all be on a group basis. If you choose one of the private options, the boat will still be shared, but hotel pick-up/drop-off and guiding will be private.

Day 6 ─

Fly Home & End of the Services

Meal: Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

According to your flight time, transfer to Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport. (Pickup time and airport may change.)

Tour Overview

How This Aegean Arc Package Earns Its Place

  • Istanbul and Ephesus together give the trip both the Ottoman and Roman chapters of western Turkey in a sequence that builds naturally.
  • Pamukkale stands completely apart from every other stop, the travertines and Hierapolis ancient city deliver a contrast that makes the route feel visually varied rather than repetitive.
  • The Bosphorus Cruise on the final full day trades the intensity of archaeology for a slower, scenic city farewell between two continents.
  • Domestic flights replace long overland stretches, keeping the pace efficient without sacrificing the experience at each destination.
  • Hotels, guided days, entrance fees, and breakfasts are packaged together, one booking covers the full arc.

For the same Istanbul, Pamukkale, and Ephesus journey with an extra day of exploration, our 7 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour adds Cappadocia and a full extra overnight.
If you want the complete eight-day Turkey experience, our 8 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour covers all the key regions with ample time at every stop.

Istanbul plus Pamukkale and Ephesus was a dream combo. 6 days was ideal. Istanbul days covered all the big sites - Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar, Bosphorus cruise. Then we flew to the Aegean region for Ephesus and Pamukkale. Ephesus is jawdropping, the scale of the ruins is hard to beleive. Pamukkale's white terraces were beautful and swimming in Cleopatra's pool was a treat. Guides at each location were fantastic.
