Tour Overview

Start on the Aegean coast, not in Cappadocia. A 5-day Turkey holiday package from Istanbul opens with Ephesus, traces an overland route through Pamukkale's thermal terraces and the Mevlana heritage of Konya, then finishes in the fairy chimney valleys of Cappadocia. The gradual eastward journey makes each new region feel earned rather than rushed.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ─

Fly to Izmir & Explore Ephesus

Meal: Lunch

04:00 - Pick up from your hotel in Istanbul and transfer to the airport.

07:00 - Flight from Istanbul to Izmir. (Flight time may change.)

08:10 - Arrival at Izmir Airport. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Transfer to the Ephesus area to begin the first guided day.

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Ephesus in the late afternoon takes on a different quality as the sun drops toward the Aegean, casting long shadows across the marble columns and turning the stone warm orange. Many visitors who arrive mid-morning stay longer than they planned, pulled from one monument to the next by the depth of what the ancient city offers. Comfortable walking shoes and a good guide are the two most important things you can bring.
  • House of Virgin Mary: Christian tradition holds that the Virgin Mary came to this mountain near Ephesus in the company of the Apostle John after the Crucifixion. The connection between Mary and this specific location in western Turkey has been recognized by the Catholic Church since the late 19th century, and regular masses are still held at the small chapel. A visit here is as much a living religious site as a historical one.
  • Temple of Artemis: Artemis, goddess of the hunt, the moon, and childbirth, was one of the most widely worshipped deities in the ancient Greek world, and her temple at Ephesus was the largest expression of that devotion ever built. The temple complex was not just a religious site; it functioned as a bank, a market, and a gathering place for the entire region. Understanding that multifunctional role changes how you read the single remaining column near Selcuk.

16:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Kusadasi/Selcuk after the tour.

Overnight stay in Kusadasi/Selcuk

Day 2 ─

Pamukkale & Hierapolis Full Day Tour

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

08:00 - After breakfast, depart from Kusadasi or Selcuk for Pamukkale.

  • Pamukkale: Standing at the base of Pamukkale, you see a hillside that looks painted white rather than made of stone. Warm springs have been depositing calcium carbonate across this slope for over two thousand years. The resulting travertine terraces, and the Greco-Roman ruins above them, earned the site its UNESCO World Heritage status.
  • White Calcium Terraces: Calcium carbonate concentrations in Pamukkale's thermal water are high enough that you can actually watch thin mineral crusts form on leaves and sticks left in the flow for just a few days. Over thousands of years, that same process built the broad white terraces that now define the hillside. Walking across them barefoot, with warm water at your ankles and ruins above your head, feels like stepping inside a geology textbook.
  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Hierapolis was founded by the Attalid kings of Pergamon in the 2nd century BC and later absorbed into the Roman Empire without a fight. Under Roman rule it expanded significantly, gaining the theater, baths, and colonnaded streets that define the site today. The Byzantine period added a cathedral and city walls, remnants of which still stand at the southern entrance to the ruins above Pamukkale.
  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool occupies a corner of the Hierapolis ruins above Pamukkale, its warm water and submerged columns drawing visitors who want more than just a walk through the ancient city. The thermal water flows at 36 degrees and contains the same calcium-rich minerals responsible for the white travertine terraces below. Keep in mind that entry to the pool is not included in your tour cost, it is payable directly on-site.

16:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Pamukkale.

Overnight stay in Pamukkale

Day 3 ─

Overland to Cappadocia via Konya

Meal: Breakfast

Today is a transfer-only day. A tour guide is not included; if you would like a guide for this route, we can arrange one at an extra cost.

After breakfast, begin the overland transfer from Pamukkale toward Cappadocia. The drive takes about 10 hours in total.

A stop is planned in Konya center for your personal needs. You may visit the Mevlana Museum on your own and have lunch independently.

Continue the drive to Cappadocia after the Konya break.

Arrival in Cappadocia and hotel check-in.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:30 - Pick up from your hotel in Cappadocia for the northern route.

  • Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley): Devrent Valley, also known as Imagination Valley, sits on the northern section of the Cappadocia Red Tour route and serves as a natural introduction to the region's volcanic landscape. Its animal-shaped fairy chimneys make it one of the most playful visual stops in Cappadocia.
  • Pasabag Open Air Museum: Looking at Pasabag's carved windows from outside, it is easy to understand the appeal of cave living: the thick rock walls provide natural insulation in both summer and winter, making these cells cooler than any tent and warmer than any wooden structure of the same period.
  • Avanos Pottery Workshop: Purchasing pottery at an Avanos workshop and carrying it home is a direct act of cultural support, keeping artisan skills economically viable in a region where tourism could easily replace craft with souvenir production. Workshops that sell functional pieces to working Turkish families are the ones most worth visiting.
  • Goreme Panoramic View: Hot air balloons launch from Goreme valley before sunrise, and on balloon days the Panoramic View lets you watch dozens of them drifting simultaneously above the chimneys at varying heights. That combination of balloons and geological landscape is one of the most photographed scenes in all of Turkey.
  • Zelve Open Air Museum: Photography at Zelve rewards both wide-angle compositions and tight detail shots: the facade of layered cave openings at multiple levels works beautifully as a broad frame, while individual carved doorways and worn stone surfaces carry their own documentary weight when photographed closely.
  • Uchisar Castle (exterior view): From directly below Uchisar Castle's base, the carved windows at the top of the rock appear almost impossibly small, which gives you a physical sense of the formation's actual height that photographs from the viewing terrace do not convey. Walking closer before taking the wider shots adds useful perspective.

17:00 - Transfer back to your hotel.

Overnight stay in Cappadocia

Day 5 ─

South Cappadocia & Fly Back to Istanbul

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

09:30 - Pick up from your hotel and start the final Cappadocia tour.

  • Red Valley: Sunlight behaves differently inside Red Valley than it does on open plateaus, filtering between tall rock columns and casting long geometric shadows across the trail. Photographers who understand light make specific visits to Red Valley timed around mid-morning, when shadows are sharp and the warm tones of the rock are fully saturated.
  • Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Local guides in Cappadocia describe Rose Valley as the most consistently beautiful stretch of canyon in the region, citing its combination of natural color and carved heritage sites. Repeat visitors to Cappadocia often return to Gulludere Valley specifically, citing it as the experience they remember most vividly from previous trips.
  • Cavusin Village: Recent stabilization work at Cavusin has secured some sections of the cliff face and improved access paths through the upper settlement without altering the site's fundamental raw character. Visitors who explored old Cavusin a decade ago will notice changes in which areas are now accessible, reflecting ongoing efforts to balance heritage preservation with visitor safety.
  • Pigeon Valley: A dramatic canyon stretches the length of Pigeon Valley between Uchisar and Goreme, with sheer cliff walls on both sides rising steeply above a trail that follows the canyon floor. Looking up from below, you can count hundreds of carved pigeon house openings arranged in rough rows across the cliff faces at every accessible height.
  • Underground City: Ancient wells and water collection points inside Cappadocia's underground city gave residents access to fresh water without surfacing, a critical infrastructure element for a community under siege. Some wells reached natural aquifer layers deep in the volcanic bedrock, providing a reliable water source independent of surface rainfall or river access.

17:00 - Transfer to the airport after the tour.

19:30 - Flight from Cappadocia to Istanbul. (Flight time may change.)

20:50 - Arrival at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport. (Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.)

Your tour ends at the arrival airport in Istanbul. Please let us know if you would like to add an extra transfer after the flight.

Tour Overview

Why This Holiday Route Earns Its Own Category

  • West-to-east overland logic: The package moves continuously inland, coast to thermal valleys to Sufi heartland to volcanic landscapes, so each new region feels earned rather than teleported.
  • Konya as a genuine cultural stop: The Mevlana Museum in the city of the whirling dervishes adds a Seljuk and Sufi layer that no coastal Turkey package offers on a five-day schedule.
  • Ephesus and Pamukkale in the right order: Starting with Ephesus while energy is highest, then continuing to Pamukkale, keeps the pacing strong through the first two days.
  • Two Cappadocia days for the finish: The north and south valley routes on Days 4 and 5 give the package a strong scenic finale with the balloon-ready morning already built in.
  • No airport rush on the middle days: The overland Pamukkale-to-Cappadocia leg removes the need for a connecting flight on Day 3, which simplifies the overall trip structure.

One extra day opens a noticeably more comfortable pace: our 6 Days Best of Turkey Heritage Tour adds Pergamon to the Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia route with more time at each stop.
For the full seven-day experience with Istanbul included, our 7 Days Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus Tour is the most complete way to see Turkey's highlights in one trip.

Five days hitting all the major spots and every day was incredible. Started in Istanbul with the historical sites, then Cappadocia for the balloon ride and fairy chimneys, Pamukkale for the white terraces, and Ephesus to finish. The pacing was perfcet, never felt too rushed or like we had too much downtime. Guide Tuna was with us the whole 5 days and he was amazing, always happy to answer questions and share extra stories about each place. Hotels were all comfortable, meals were tasty, domestic flights were on time. Really solid holiday package.

Four regions in five days and every single one was worth the stop. Ephesus kicked things off strong, the Library of Celsus is even bigger in person. Pamukkale terraces in the afternoon sun were glowing. Konya was the cultural pause I didnt know I needed, the Mevlana Museum is genuinely moving. Then Cappadocia for the grand finale with 2 full tour days. The underground city freaked me out a bit but it was fasinating. Guide Leyla was brilliant the entire time.
