Video4 Days Cappadocia and Konya Tour
4 Days Cappadocia and Konya Tour
VideoTour Overview
Cappadocia's volcanic valleys and Konya's Seljuk heritage sit just a few hours apart, yet most packages ignore the connection. A 4-day Cappadocia and Konya tour pairs two full days of fairy chimneys and cave churches with a dedicated stop at the Mevlana Museum and Rumi's spiritual heartland, giving your trip cultural depth alongside the scenery.

Meal: Lunch
Start your first guided day in Cappadocia with a route focused on the best-known northern landmarks.
- Devrent Valley (Pink Valley): Devrent Valley rewards revisits at different times of day, and tour operators who run afternoon routes see a completely different color palette than morning groups. The valley's character shifts dramatically with light, which is unusual even by Cappadocia's standards.
- Pasabag Open Air Museum: Pasabag's fairy chimneys survived to their remarkable height because hard basalt caps at the top protected the softer volcanic tuff below from rain erosion. Remove those caps and the columns would have worn down to the valley floor centuries ago, leaving nothing to stand inside.
- Avanos Pottery Workshop: Children and adults both engage actively with the Avanos wheel session, and family groups often find it one of the most enjoyable moments of the entire tour. The instructor has taught thousands of beginners and has a patient, encouraging teaching style that keeps the experience fun rather than pressured.
- Goreme Panoramic View: At Goreme Panoramic View, your guide often takes the group photograph that serves as the day's commemorative image, with the full valley backdrop behind the group. Asking for that organized photo before everyone disperses to take individual shots is worth doing first.
- Zelve Open Air Museum: Zelve Open Air Museum charges a separate entrance fee from other museum sites in the region, which surprises some visitors who assume all Cappadocia sites use a single pass. Your Red Tour guide handles all entrance logistics, so this is purely informational context rather than a practical concern for tour participants.
- Uchisar Castle (exterior view): Byzantine communities who used Uchisar Castle valued it primarily as a refuge, a place the entire population could retreat to in times of threat. Tunnels honeycombing the rock allowed people to move between levels without exposure, a defensive feature visible from outside as a dense pattern of connecting passages.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
Today focuses on the more open southern valleys and one of the region's famous underground settlements.
- Red Valley: Red Valley's color palette of burnt orange, rust, and gold looks especially vivid against the bright blue skies common across Cappadocia between spring and autumn. Travelers who visit on overcast days report that the rock tones appear muted, making sunny mornings the optimal time for both photography and walking.
- Rose Valley (Gulludere Valley): Walking through Rose Valley, you follow a path used by Byzantine monks more than a thousand years ago as they moved between their carved cliff chapels and cave dwellings. Several of these churches remain accessible to visitors today, offering a direct, unmediated encounter with Cappadocia's early Christian heritage.
- Cavusin Village: Cavusin's cliff settlement was home to Greek Orthodox Christians who maintained an active religious and cultural life alongside their agricultural work in the valley below. Several carved churches in and around the old village preserve decorative painted schemes reflecting Byzantine artistic traditions that flourished in Cappadocia between the 9th and 12th centuries.
- Pigeon Valley: Pigeon Valley's canyon depth creates a natural wind tunnel effect, with air channeled between the cliff walls at a noticeably higher speed than on the open plateau above. This consistent airflow is believed to have been a secondary reason for the valley's popularity as a dovecote location, since pigeons navigate well in moving air.
- Underground City: Cappadocia's underground cities were not unique to one settlement; more than 36 carved underground complexes have been identified across the region, ranging from small single-family refuges to multi-thousand-person cities. Together they represent one of the most concentrated examples of defensive underground architecture found anywhere in the ancient world.

Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
The Konya route introduces Seljuk heritage and the spiritual world connected to Mevlana Rumi.
- Mevlana Museum: Mevlana Museum is the spiritual heart of this entire itinerary, placing you beside Rumi's resting place in a space where contemplation and devotion have been continuous for over seven centuries.
- Sultan Selim Mosque: Sultan Selim Mosque introduces Ottoman architectural grace near the Mevlana complex, showing how Konya's religious landscape continued to evolve long after the Seljuk era.
- Alaaddin Mosque: Alaaddin Mosque connects the day to Seljuk political power on the ancient hilltop that once served as the heart of the capital, merging faith with governance.
- Karatay Madrasa: Karatay Madrasa reveals the scholarly and decorative brilliance of Seljuk Konya through its celebrated tile work and educational heritage, adding intellectual depth to the spiritual trail.
- Shams-i Tabrizi Tomb and Mosque: This final stop deepens the Rumi narrative by honoring the enigmatic figure whose friendship transformed Rumi from a scholar into a poet, closing the Sufi trail on an intimate human note.

Cappadocia and Konya are so different from each other which made this combo tour really interesting. Cappadocia was all about nature and the surreal fairy chimney landscape. We did the Red and Yellow tours plus added the balloon flight. The cave hotel was amazing. Then driving to Konya through the Anatolian countryside was scenic and peaceful. Konya is all about Rumi and Sufi spirituality, the Mevlana Museum was very moving. Guide Aylin in Cappadocia and guide Mustafa in Konya were both excelent. Everything ran smoothly the whole 4 days.
