18:30 - Arrive at Hodjapasha Cultural Center in Sirkeci.
You should arrive at the venue about 30 minutes before the ceremony starts. This early arrival matters because the program follows a strict schedule and late entry is limited. The venue sits in a convenient old-city location that is easy to reach by tram or on foot from nearby central districts.

Before the ceremony - Enjoy a traditional drink and browse the small exhibition.
Before the performance begins, guests are welcomed under the old Ottoman dome with sherbet or a herbal drink. You also have time to look at the exhibition material on Mevlevi thought and Rumi's teaching. This short introduction helps the ceremony feel more meaningful once it starts.

Children under 7 years old are not allowed to attend the ceremony.
Photography and video recording are not allowed during the performance.
Please be ready inside the hall at least 30 minutes before the ceremony starts.
The theater is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Latecomers may enter only during the first 5 minutes of the Sema session. Guests arriving more than 10 minutes late are treated as no-show and the ticket is non-refundable.

Not a show but a real spiritual ceremony and you can feel the difference. The dervishes spin with their eyes closed and there is this calm energy in the room that is hard to describe. The Hodjapasha venue is a 550 year old hamam which adds so much to the atmosphere. The Mevlevi exhibition before the ceremony gave good context about Rumi and the Sufi tradition. No photos allowed during the ceremony which honestly made it better, everyone was fully present. About an hour long. One of the most unique things I did in Istanbul tbh.

I was not prepared for how emotional this would be. The Sema ceremony is not a performance, its a spiritual practice, and watching it unfold in that beautiful old hamam building gave me chills. The whirling dervishes move with such grace and precision, it was mesmerizing. The Mevlevi exhibition beforehand helped explain the meaning behind every movement. The Hodjapasha Cultural Center itself is a gorgeous venue. No photos allowed during the ceremony which I think actually makes it better, you just focus on the moment. Truly special.

As a Muslim I was very interested in the Sufi tradition and this ceremony was everything I hoped for. The venue is a restored 15th century hamam which adds to the atmosphere. The Mevlevi music was haunting and beautifull. Watching the dervishes whirl in their white robes was hypnotic. The whole thing lasted about an hour and every minute was worth it. The exhibition at the start gave good context about Rumi and the Mevlevi order. A very respectful and authentic experience.
