Tour Overview

Most Aegean tours end with a bus ride to the airport. Here, you end floating above Pamukkale's white plateau at sunrise. A 3-day Ephesus and Pamukkale tour with a hot air balloon combines the Roman grandeur of Ephesus, a full day at the Hierapolis ruins and thermal terraces, and an aerial finale that very few western Turkey itineraries offer.

Tour Itinerary

Fly to Izmir and Tour Ephesus

Early pickup, morning flight to Izmir, the Ephesus route, and overnight stay in Selcuk/Kusadasi.

  1. 03:45 - Pick up from your hotel in Istanbul.

Our team will pick you up from your Istanbul hotel in the early morning and transfer you to the airport. This first connection is what allows the package to fit a full Ephesus day inside a short three-day window. Final pickup point and airport depend on airline availability.

Pickup time and airport may change.

  2. 07:00 - Flight from Istanbul to Izmir.

You will take the morning domestic flight to Izmir to start the western Turkey route. Flying keeps the package efficient and protects your sightseeing time for the historical part of the day. It is the fastest way to move from Istanbul into the Ephesus area.

    Flight time may change.

  3. 08:10 - Arrival at Izmir Airport and meet-up.

After landing in Izmir, our local staff will welcome you and connect you directly to the Ephesus touring area. This keeps the transition smooth instead of leaving you to arrange the first regional transfer on your own. From the airport, you continue toward Selcuk and the archaeological route.

Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.

  4. After arrival - Transfer to the Ephesus touring area.

You will be transferred from Izmir Airport to start the guided Ephesus day. This short regional drive moves the package quickly from airport logistics into actual sightseeing. Once you arrive, the historical route begins.

Ephesus Ancient City Touring RouteExpand briefing

Ephesus Ancient City → Marble Streets → The Odeon → The Agora → The Temple of Hadrian → The Monumental Fountains → The Library of Celsus → The Great Amphitheatre → The Roman Baths → House of Virgin Mary → Temple of Artemis

Briefing

  • Ephesus Ancient City: Visiting Ephesus on Turkey's Aegean coast puts you face to face with 2,000 years of daily Roman life.

  • Marble Streets: Looking down the main street of Ephesus, you see a straight Roman road lined with columns on both sides.

  • The Odeon: A wooden stage once fronted the Odeon's marble semicircle, where professional musicians performed for the city's elite.

  • The Agora: Remnants of column bases and paving stones outline the original footprint of Ephesus's lower commercial agora today.

  • The Temple of Hadrian: Medusa's face carved above the inner doorway of Hadrian's Temple was meant to ward off evil from the sacred space.

  • The Monumental Fountains: Roman engineers piped water from mountain springs several kilometers away to keep Ephesus's nymphaea continuously flowing.

  • The Library of Celsus: Facing east, the Library of Celsus in Ephesus catches the morning sun directly, making early visits ideal for photography.

  • The Great Amphitheatre: Gladiators, wild animals, theatrical troupes, and public speakers all performed on the stage of Ephesus's Great Amphitheatre.

  • The Roman Baths: Marble benches, mosaic floors, and heated pools made Ephesus's public baths among the most elaborate facilities in Roman Asia Minor.

  • House of Virgin Mary: Local Christian communities in Ephesus maintained oral traditions pointing to this hilltop location centuries before modern excavation.

  • Temple of Artemis: Successive temples were built on the same sacred site in Ephesus for nearly a thousand years, each grander than the last.

  1. 16:30 - Transfer to your hotel in Selcuk/Kusadasi.

After the Ephesus route ends, you will be transferred to your hotel in Selcuk/Kusadasi for check-in. Staying on the coast after day one keeps the package comfortable and sets up the drive to Pamukkale more naturally for the next morning. The first day ends with hotel check-in.

  2. Night - Overnight stay in Selcuk/Kusadasi.

You will spend the night in Selcuk/Kusadasi after the first touring day. This overnight keeps the route paced better than forcing Ephesus and Pamukkale into a single long day. It also gives the package a more relaxed middle section.

Drive to Pamukkale & Full Tour

Breakfast, overland transfer to Pamukkale, guided sightseeing, and overnight stay in Pamukkale.

  1. 08:00 - Pick up from your hotel and drive to Pamukkale.

After breakfast and check-out, our team will pick you up from your hotel in Selcuk/Kusadasi and start the road transfer to Pamukkale. The drive takes around two and a half hours and connects the Aegean coast with the inland thermal landscape in a practical way. Once you arrive, the guided route begins.

Pickup time may change according to hotel location.

Pamukkale Touring RouteExpand briefing

Pamukkale → White Calcium Terraces → Hierapolis Ancient City → The Necropolis → Bath and Basilica → Frontinius Gate → Frontinius Street → Latrina → Northern Byzantine Gate → Fountain of the Tritons → The Temple of Apollon → Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool

Briefing

  • Pamukkale: Ancient Romans built an entire spa city at the top of these terraces, believing the thermal waters held powerful healing properties.

  • White Calcium Terraces: Geologists call the terraced formations travertine, a type of limestone deposited by spring water loaded with calcium bicarbonate.

  • Hierapolis Ancient City: Walking through Hierapolis today means crossing the same marble paving stones that Roman citizens, merchants, and pilgrims walked two thousand years ago.

  • The Necropolis: Archaeologists have found evidence of multiple cultures buried side by side in the Necropolis, Greek, Roman, Jewish, and early Christian communities all rest here.

  • Bath and Basilica: Fragments of colored marble floor tiling still survive in sections of the Bath and Basilica, hinting at the level of decoration this building once had.

  • Frontinius Gate: Standing at the Frontinius Gate, you are standing at the same threshold that Roman soldiers, merchants, pilgrims, and philosophers crossed on their way into the city.

  • Frontinius Street: Column bases and fallen shaft sections along Frontinius Street give a clear sense of how the colonnade originally looked when all the columns still stood.

  • Latrina: Hierapolis's latrina demonstrates how thoroughly the Romans engineered everyday life, even waste management was handled through sophisticated city-wide infrastructure.

  • Northern Byzantine Gate: Unlike the monumental Frontinius Gate to the south, the Northern Byzantine Gate has a more defensive than ceremonial character, built for security, not display.

  • Fountain of the Tritons: Public fountains in Roman cities were maintained by civic officials whose job included keeping the water flowing, the basin clean, and the structure in good repair.

  • The Temple of Apollon: Apollo was the god of healing, music, and prophecy, all three aspects made him the natural patron of a city built around thermal waters and visited by people seeking cures.

  • Cleopatra Antique Thermal Pool: Mineral-rich water bubbling up through the pool floor creates a gentle carbonation effect that makes soaking here feel distinctly different from a regular pool, entry is not included in the tour and is paid on-site.

  1. 16:00 - Transfer to your hotel in Pamukkale.

After the Pamukkale visit ends, you will be transferred to your hotel in the Pamukkale area. Sleeping locally is what makes the balloon flight possible the following morning without another long transfer. It gives the package a clear sunrise setup.

  2. Night - Overnight stay in Pamukkale.

You will spend the night in Pamukkale after the second touring day. This overnight logic is important because it places you close to the balloon departure area for the early morning experience. Day two ends at the hotel.

Balloon Flight & Flight to Istanbul

Sunrise balloon flight, breakfast back at the hotel, free time, evening flight, and return to Istanbul.

  1. 05:00 - Pick up from your hotel for the balloon flight.

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your Pamukkale hotel and transferred to the balloon departure area. This early transfer is a key part of the package because it lets the balloon experience happen without extra local planning. Seasonal weather and flight permission determine the final launch conditions.

Pickup time may change according to weather and season.

Pamukkale Balloon MorningExpand briefing

Pamukkale balloon flight -> Hotel breakfast -> Free time

Briefing

  • Pamukkale Hot Air Balloon Flight: The balloon flight gives the package its signature moment because Pamukkale looks fundamentally different from the air, the terrace geometry, the thermal springs, Hierapolis, and the surrounding valley all become readable as a single interconnected landscape rather than separate destinations. Flights typically launch at sunrise when the light is softest and the air is calmest, and the flight duration is usually between 30 and 60 minutes depending on wind conditions. Floating above the site you walked through the previous day creates a layered perspective that is difficult to achieve any other way.

  • Breakfast and free time in Pamukkale: After the balloon flight, you return to the hotel for breakfast and check-out before the transfer to the airport begins. This post-flight morning at Pamukkale is deliberately unhurried, the balloon experience is the main event and the time afterward is designed for recovery, a final look at the view, and a relaxed departure rather than additional sightseeing. The airport transfer is pre-arranged and timed to connect with the available Istanbul-bound flights.

  1. Afternoon - Transfer to Denizli Airport.

Later in the day, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Denizli Airport for the return flight. This final inland transfer closes the Pamukkale section cleanly after the morning activity. From there, the trip shifts back to Istanbul.

  2. 19:00 - Flight from Denizli to Istanbul.

You will board your evening domestic flight back to Istanbul after the final free hours in Pamukkale. This timing lets you keep the balloon flight and still return to Istanbul the same day. Exact airline timing may vary.

    Flight time may change.

  3. 20:00 - Arrival in Istanbul and airport meet-up.

After arriving in Istanbul, our team will welcome you at the airport exit. This keeps the last section of the package simple after an early morning start and a full travel day. Your final transfer follows immediately after landing.

Arrival airport and time may change according to availability.

  4. After arrival - Transfer back to your hotel in Istanbul.

You will be transferred from the airport back to your hotel or central address in Istanbul. This final service lets the package finish cleanly without one more transport problem at the end. Your three-day tour ends after the transfer.

Tour Overview

What the Balloon Adds to an Ephesus and Pamukkale Package

  • A perspective no ground tour can offer: From the balloon at sunrise, the white terraces and the ancient city above them spread out in a visual panorama that is only available from the air.
  • Two major archaeological and natural sites: Ephesus gives the trip its Roman depth and Pamukkale gives it a natural wonder, the balloon ties both into a single visual memory from above.
  • Hotels and flights included: Round-trip flights from Istanbul, hotel nights in Selcuk/Kusadasi and Pamukkale, and transfers between all sites are handled so you travel without arranging logistics.
  • Licensed guide throughout: Every site visit includes a professional licensed guide so you understand what you are seeing at each stop.
  • House of Virgin Mary: The Ephesus day includes the hilltop pilgrimage chapel above the ruins, a quieter, sacred stop that adds emotional contrast to the archaeological program.

This balloon experience rises over Pamukkale, not Cappadocia, making it one of Turkey's most unusual dawn combinations.

Three days of ancient ruins, natural wonders, and a balloon flight over Pamukkale. This tour had everythign. Ephesus was absolutley incredible - the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the terrace houses. Spending a full day there with guide Tuna who explained everything in such an engaging way was one of the best experienses of my life. Then Pamukkale with the white travertines and the balloon flight at sunrise. Seeing those terraces from above is surreal. 3 days perfectly organized from Istanbul. Hotels were nice, meals were good, all transfers smooth. Could not have asked for more.

My girlfriend cried during the balloon flight. Not out of fear, out of beauty. The white terraces at sunrise from a balloon basket is genuinly one of those once in a lifetime things. The two days before it were amazing too. Ephesus is a proper Roman city preserved in incredible condition. Pamukkale is nature at its most creative. The guide Ali made every stop educational and fun. Kusadasi hotel was nice and the Pamukkale hotel was basic but clean. All flights from Istanbul included.
